2023 has been a great year for awesome comedies getting theatrical releases. No Hard Feelings was awesome and maybe had just a little bit more heart, but I have to say I think that Bottoms is my favorite comedy of the year. I was laughing so hard that my sides were hurting! This is raunchy high-school comedy at its best!

The Wild Ride: A Bottoms Movie Review
This is the wildest comedy that I have seen in a very long time! I would probably put it up there with Superbad and American Pie in regards to how good and funny it is! I will say that if you are easily offended by sex, bad language, and bloody violence, this is 100 percent not the movie for you.

Meet the Characters
Our two main characters are best friends Josie (played by Ayo Edebiri) and PJ (played by Rechel Sennott) and they are lesbians, but they have never had sex and so desperately want to before they go to college. Josie and PJ have another friend, Hazel who is kind of weird and awkward just like they are and they make a great core friend group.
High School Crushes and Shenanigans
Josie has the hots for Isabel who is a superstar cheerleader at the school and PJ is infatuated with Brittany who is also a cheerleader. At the state fair, PJ, Josie, and Hazel are hanging out and end up involved in an incident where the high school quarterback Jeff gets hit by their car and “injured”.
The Birth of an Unlikely Idea
Back at school, the principal is furious and word gets out that the two of them did some time in juvie over the summer. The two girls come up with a plan to say that they were using stuff from their all-female empowerment fight club and that was how Jeff got hurt. This whole scene is freaking hilarious and you can see the lightbulb going off as they get their great idea.
The All-Female Fight Club
They decide that they will actually start this all-female fight club at the school! They think that their fight club is a great way for them to get closer to the hot girls at school to have sex with them! Well, turns out that this school is freaking insane, and add to this a legit deadly rivalry with another school and things just get crazier and crazier all the way until the credits roll!
A Unique Take on Classic Tropes
I will say that Bottoms does have many of the classic tropes of a high school comedy. Teens being obsessed with sex, friends falling out and then coming back together, and so on! However, the way it is all presented is just so over the top that the movie absolutely zooms by and you are laughing the whole time.
Unexpected Violence and Gore
There was one thing that did take me by surprise though and that was the violence and gore! Yes, it is all done for laughs, but this is the craziest teen comedy in terms of violence that I have ever seen! The ending, holy crap the ending, trust me when I tell you to not read anything about it and just go and experience it as it is so hilarious and nuts!
Conclusion: A Must-Watch Comedy
If you love a good raunchy and over-the-top comedy, I cannot recommend Bottoms highly enough. I loved this movie and I know for sure it will be like Superbad and the original American Pie where I watch it many, many times! I am 99 percent sure that this will be on my best movies of the year list!
