Released in 2014 and serving as the tie into the second Avengers movie. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is still regarded as one of the best movies in the whole MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Full disclosure here folks, my review today is going to contain spoilers.

The Film Review
Spoilers Ahead
The Winter Soldier is unlike any other movie in the MCU. While there is a lot and some great action here. The Winter Soldier feels more like a spy/espionage type movie than it does your typical action movie.
Chris Evans once again plays Captain America. He is joined by Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, Anthony Mackie as Falcon and Emily VanCamp as Agent 13 to name just some of the very talented cast. This movie is stacked with talent from an acting point of view. I really do not think there is one weak link in this movie.
Of course, one character is missing from my list, The Winter Soldier who is played by Sebastian Stan. This movie is just as much about The Winter Soldier as it is Captain America. The reveal that Bucky is The Winter Soldier is truly amazing and one of the best reveals in the MCU.
While those of us who have read the comic books knew the money Bucky was introduced in The First Avenger what his fate would be. Those who never knew about The Winter Soldier before this must have had their minds blown by the reveal. The conflict that Captain America has between doing what’s right as well as wanting to believe that there is still good in his friend is excellent.
While the Cap and Bucky dynamic is great. The main aspect of the movie is how Hydra was not defeated when Captain America defeated The Red Skull. Instead, they went undercover and infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. This is another mind blower, along with Arnim Zola still being “alive” Captain America: The Winter Soldier is full of jaw-dropping moments.
The storytelling and the directing are truly some of the best in the MCU. The movie was directed by The Russo brothers and they proved that they could walk the line between action/drama and even a little comedy very well. I think you could argue that this is as close to a perfect movie the MCU has.
One thing that I feel gets overlooked is the action set pieces that The Winter Soldier has. There is a fight that takes place on an elevator and you would think that this would not work, but it does and when Cap asks, “before we get started does anyone want to get out” is amazing and shows what a badass he is.
The final act where Captain America and Falcon take on The Winter Soldier on the two Helicarriers is great. I really like how The Winter Soldier manages to ground Falcon. Even after the intense battle and what he has done. It is so great to see that right until the end, Captain America will not abandon Bucky.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of the crown jewels of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is one of those movies that I must have seen ten times and it never gets old. The fallout from the movie is still being felt in the MCU to this day and it is a movie that I cannot recommend highly enough.
