Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye

While I am a big fan of anime, Dan Da Dan is something that completely went under my radar. I saw Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye advertised at my theatre, and I was interested enough to look into it. Upon reading about it some more, I discovered that this was in fact the first three episodes of season 2 cut together to make a “movie” and that the rest of season 2 will be released later this summer.

Where to Watch Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye

Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye was released on June 6, 2025. Soon you should be able to watch the gilm on a digital platform such as Crunchyroll, Netflix or Hulu. Check the availability below.

Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye Review – A Blend of Supernatural and Sci-Fi

In chatting to one of the people at my theatre, I said that it looked cool, but I knew nothing about it. He told me that it would have a recap of season 1 at the start of the movie for those who had not seen it. That was all I needed to hear, and I decided to go and see it. This cutting a few episodes together to make a movie seems to really be a thing now, doesn’t it?

Look, as I have not seen the show before watching this movie, it does mean that if you are a fan of the show, you should probably take what I am saying here with a grain of salt. The basics of what Dan Da Dan is all about are that we are in a world where people can have these supernatural abilities, and our two main characters are Momo and Okarun, and they are likable enough. They use their abilities to fight the supernatural as well as aliens. By the way, the fact that this mixes together aliens and the supernatural is something I thought was really cool.

Characters and Plot Depth in Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye

They join forces with some friends as well as someone called “Turbo Granny,” who, from what I understand, is introduced here, and I have to say, she is awesome! On a trip, they end up in a place that has some major supernatural activity going on, and if they do not step in to stop it, it could result in a volcanic eruption and maybe even the destruction of everything that they have been trying to save.

Missing Context But Still Enjoyable

At the end of the day, the recap at the start was ok, but I could clearly tell that I was missing some bits of information here and there. I like how they tried to make this inclusive for everyone, but I do feel that I would have enjoyed this far more if I had seen season 1. To be fair, that is a me problem and not a problem with the movie. I knew what this was going in, so that is on me; I had not seen what came before it.

Style, Atmosphere, and Visuals

I will say that I loved the whole style of the movie. Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye has a really cool, creepy vibe to it; it reminded me of stuff like The Grudge movies and the Fatal Frame video games. There are some legit creepy scenes, but there is also a bit of humor and heart in here from some of the characters, too. I liked the setting, the visuals, and the characters enough that I do think I will check out season 1 at some point.

Editing and Structure of the Movie Cut

Now, I said at the start that blending a few episodes together to make a movie is the done thing with anime these days. However, Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye is very obvious in this regard, as there were these quick cuts, but I still noticed the cuts that were clearly where the ads were supposed to be! I think that they could have formatted the movie a bit better, even perhaps adding an extra scene or something to make these ad cuts less noticeable.

Final Thoughts – Worth a Watch for Anime Fans

Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye was a fun time, and for the most part, I got what was going on here. At the end of the day, it at the very least made me interested in checking out the anime the movie is cut from. This was just a one-day showing, a day deal at my cinema, and for just a week, but if it is not on any more where you live, season 2, which is what this is taken from, is on in July 2025. To be honest, if you have not seen season 1, I would recommend watching that and then just waiting for season 2 to air, rather than coming in blind to this movie.
