To some people, it may sound nuts that Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was the highest-grossing movie of 2020. Those who know of the franchise though will not be surprised as it is the biggest anime in the world right now. This movie is great for fans, but while it is cool, those unfamiliar with the franchise will no doubt feel a tad lost.

The Movie Review
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train takes place pretty much right where the TV series ended. Tanjiro and the other heroes are on a train that has seen demon hunters and regular people go missing. It is a very interesting premise and it does not take long to realize that a powerful and evil entity is responsible.
One thing that is neat about the movie is that the core group of heroes has come a long way after the events of the TV series. However, the entity that is holding this train hostage, Enmu is far beyond what they can handle. So, even though they have come far, they still are not quite at the level they want or need to be, that is why Rengoku is called in to help.
I would say that Rengoku is the main character of this movie, not Tanjiro. That sounds cool, but we do not actually know a great deal about him and the movie never really dives into this. The same can be said for the villain, Enmu has an awesome design and looks so creepy, but he is a very one dimension villain with very little character to make us really care.
To be fair, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train gives the main core group a decent amount of time to shine. Each one of the main band of heroes feels like they get a moment or two to develop and shine. I just wish that they gave a little more time to Rengoku and Enmu to make us care about them. Sure, they both look badass and cool, but that is not enough.
I am not saying that the story is bad, if you like the show, you are going to like this that is for sure. I just feel that if Enmu and Rengoku had a bit more time, like just five minutes or so each to develop their characters more the movie would have been all the better for it in my opinion. Also, Rengoku and Tanjiro have no meaningful interactions really in the whole movie which was a missed opportunity.
While the story is not amazing, the way this movie looks – is. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is one of the best-looking animated movies I have ever seen. It mixes traditional-style animation with 3D computer-generated stuff better than the majority of other movies that have tried the same effect. It is pure eye candy and the visuals alone make it worth a watch.
I thought that Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was a good movie. It was a fun way to follow on from the events of the show and I feel had they gave it just a bit longer, 10 to 15 minutes or so it could have been great instead of being good. Still, if you enjoyed the show, you will have a lot of fun with this.
