I am a big fan of the two M3GAN movies, and Blumhouse is probably my favorite movie studio, so when I heard that there was a spin-off to the M3GAN series coming, I was pretty excited about it. I had heard that this was a more X-rated and more intense and violent kind of movie than what we got with the M3GAN movies, and honestly, I was all for that.

AI Thrillers and the Subservience Comparison
There seem to be a lot of these AI-going-nuts movies over the last few years, and the one that I was comparing Soulm8te to was the Megan Fox starring Subservience, which I really enjoyed, not just because it had Megan Fox in it; I actually really liked that movie and it is probably the best comparison for what to expect with Soulm8te, although I will say that Soulm8te is getting closer to that R rating than Subservience did.
A Grieving Programmer Meets Next-Gen Tech
Our main character is a man called David, and David works for a tech company called Canta Robotics, where he works as a programmer, and they are acquired by another company that wants to make an AI sex robot. Ok, it is a little deeper than that; they want to fuse their advanced AI with the robotics of Canta and make a companion, but we all know what their main focus here is!
Reprogramming Sara into a Deadly Obsession
Well, David is really struggling as he is still dealing with the grief of losing his wife, but he has a good friendship with a woman at his work called Aubrey, a friendship that clearly could be more. Anyway, David tries using this new AI, and he ends up really connecting with it, and the AI is called Sara.
Well, David’s new boss suggests that he take one of the robots home, the titular Soulm8te, to play around with it, test it out, and hopefully make it better. Well, David fuses it with the Sara AI he has been chatting with, but he gets annoyed that the programming makes it rather limited and not very “human”. Being the great programmer that he is, David messes around with the code and gives Sara far more independence, and of course, he starts to fall for her and, even more worrying, Sara starts to fall for him.
The movie goes from 0 to 60 in no time at all, and Sara becomes obsessed and possessive with David, so much so that Aubrey tries to help him, and she gets roped into it all, and Sara sees her as a rival! There is a scene where Sara is listing what she sees as faults with Aubrey, and it is freaking hilarious, probably one of my favorite parts of the movie.
Ramping Up the Violence and Shock Value
To say that Soulm8te ramps things up from what they did in M3GAN is a massive understatement. There is another scene where a technician tries to shut down Sara and…. well, let’s just say the good time she shows him does not last! It is probably the most famous scene in the movie and a prime example of the more extreme nature of Soulm8te over what the two M3GAN movies did.
Final Verdict: Fun AI Mayhem with Less Charm
This got rather negative reviews, but to be fair, Soulm8te was pretty much what I expected, a more sexed up and bloody version of what M3GAN and M3GAN 2.0 offered, but it lacked the style, sass, and overall charm that those movies had. It was not bad by any means, and I am sure I will watch this again at some point. But when it comes to AI robot sex doll movies, I do think I preferred Subservience…. And no, not just because it had Mega Fox in it. I think if you like M3GAN and AI robots gone bad movies in general, you will still probably have a fun time with this.
