When I heard that Dexter: New Blood was going to be a thing I wondered if it was necessary. I love the original Dexter series so I was willing to give Dexter: New Blood a chance. The showrunner from the original series, Clyde Phillips was back as was Michael C Hall as Dexter and Jennifer Carpenter as Deborah. That alone gave me hope that this could be a fantastic continuation.

The Movie Review
The setting of the show is ten years after the events of the finale of Dexter where he faked his death. Dexter is now living in a town in New York under the name of Jim and he works in a store. He is doing well and managing to keep his urges to kill and punish under control and he even finds himself in a relationship with a woman called Angela who just so happens to be the chief of police!
Dexter is keeping himself in check thanks to the imaginary conversations that he has with Deborah which are a real favorite part of the show for me. He seems like he has his life under control, but his estranged son Harrison shows up and that completely throws Dexter off. Add to this there is a serial killer in this town and Dexter finds his urgers harder and harder to resist.
I have to say that I think the father-and-son dynamic between Dexter and Harrison is done very well. The whole serial killer thing and the father and son duo trying to stop it was very exciting and done very well. Like the original series, Dexter: New Blood keeps you guessing with each episode and I always wanted to see what was going to happen next. I ended up watching the entire 10-episode series in just a couple of sittings.
You can tell that Dexter wants to be a good father for Harrison and that was some character development that I really did like. Now, the series was going great and it was really reaching an apex, but then the ending happened. I swear had the show ended one episode earlier and had Dexter and Harrison just walked away, I probably would have scored this show a whole point higher.
I really did not like the ending of this show. I get why we got the ending that we did as they wanted to bring it to a close, however, the execution of the ending left a lot to be desired in my opinion. It is not horrible or anything like that, but it was a real flat way to bring the Dexter story to a close. Although I guess technically, they could follow on from this, I will not spoil and say how I think they could.
