I am not a big motorsport fan, but I enjoyed Rush so I was willing to give Ford v Ferrari (also knows as Le Mans ’66) a chance. I am glad I did as this was a fast-paced, action-packed roller coaster of a human drama that really took me by surprise. I am sure if you are a car enthusiast you will have an even better time with the movie.

The Movie Review
This is a “biopic” however as I was ignorant of the real history going in I cannot say how historically accurate it really is. What I can tell you is that Ford v Ferrari had me on the edge of my seat during the more action-packed racing moments and actually caring about the characters as well.
The story is set in 1966 and Ford is sick of Ferrari dominating the racing scene. So much so that they have decided to go all-in with an attempt to win the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hour Race. This movie has two great leading men in Carroll Shelby who is played by Matt Damon and Ken Miles who is played by Christian Bale.
Bale and Damon are fantastic in their roles. I thought that it would be the racing that won me over in this movie. However, it was the relationship between Shelby who designs the car and Miles who is the driver that really made the movie have more substance than I actually thought it would.
The 60s setting is done very well, director James Mangold did a wonderful job bringing this time period to life. This is a director who has been a part of some amazing movies and this has to be in contention as one of his best. The movie looks fantastic and if we are talking about a racing movie, we have to talk about the racing.
I was not sure what I expected from the actual racing, but I was blown away. The racing in this movie as it is a biopic is handled in a realistic way, but it is also like an action movie! I say this because the racing is truly exciting stuff and as I did not know the real history of this movie, I was on the edge of my seat not knowing what would happen.
These racing scenes are shot phenomenally well and are just as exciting as something like The Fast and the Furious. As the movie makes you care about the characters, the racing has even more impact. One thing I want to give a special mention to is the sound, it is truly amazing. If you have a surround setup, crank that baby up, especially during the races.
I went into Ford v Ferrari with an open mind and was very impressed. This is an exciting movie, it has a lot of heart and features some great performances. No one finds motorsport more boring than me and I freaking loved this movie. If you are looking for a good movie that is fun and deep, check this one out.
