Friday the 13th Part III

In doing some research about Friday the 13th Part III I was shocked to see that at the time of its release, it was not all that highly thought of! I was shocked because this is a real favorite of mine, possibly because it was actually the first Friday the 13th movie I saw as a kid thanks to a sleepover at a friend’s house who had an older brother and I loved every minute of it.

Friday the 13th Part III: The Movie Review

Iconic Elements and 3D Effects

There are two things that are really notable about this movie. First of all, it is here where Jason gets his iconic hockey mask, a look that is still famous to this day. When you think of Jason Vorhees, you think of his hockey mask first and then a big sharp machete going through your chest second!

Also, Friday the 13th Part III was filmed with being shown in 3D in mind. This makes for some amusing parts in the movie where you can clearly tell the scene is there to showcase the 3D. It is the 3D with the crappy blue and red glasses, but it works surprisingly well, I just have a hard time watching a movie like this.

Plot and Character Analysis

I think that part of the reason this movie may not be all that loved in comparison to the first two is that it is a very similar by-the-numbers Friday the 13th kind of movie. It takes place after the events of Part 2 and Jason makes his way to a barn near Crystal Lake where he is pretty much hiding out.

Our main character is a feisty chick called Chris who along with some of her friends are going to stay at her old house by Crystal Lake. Chris has some major trauma that she is trying to work through, most notably being chased by a guy with a deformed face a couple of years back and that is why she has come back to the house, to face her fears.

The Essence of Jason in Friday the 13th Part III

Pretty much right away, Jason is not happy about these people being on what is his turf now so he starts stalking and killing them one by one. I get how people say that Friday the 13th Part III was very similar to the second movie, but I am more than ok with this. I actually like this best out of the first three as I feel it is the most “Jason” out of the three.

When I watch a Friday the 13th movie, I want to see Jason stalking people and taking them out in gnarly ways. Speaking of which the gore and the kill count were kicked up several notches for this movie. Jason does a ton of damage here and the special effects are a ton of fun; they even make some clever use of that “high-tech” 3D.

Conclusion and Personal Recommendation

If you like the series, you will like this movie it is as simple as that. It is a very simple kind of Jason movie, it is just him stalking people and taking them out, while a final girl tries to survive. If I am in the mood for a bit of Jason action, this is one of the movies that I will watch as it is a lot of fun and very easy to sit through.
