Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives

Hell yes, am I excited to talk about this one! Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives is up there as the best that this franchise has to offer. Out of all of the Friday the 13th movies, if I am in the mood for a little Jason action, this is the one I will usually put on. It is so much fun and it is also so much better than the garbage that came before it with Part V: A New Beginning.

The Movie Review: A Return to Form for the Series

They knew that they screwed up with Part V! This movie ignores what happened in the previous movie and that was such a smart decision for them to make. They ditched the idea of Tommy becoming the killer and they ditched the absolutely moronic idea of Jason not being the killer and they managed to make a damn fine movie as a result!

After the events of the fourth movie, Tommy is released from the psychiatric hospital. Tommy is still messed up after killing Jason and wants to get over his fears and move on with his life. Tommy and one of his friends, Allen head to the gravesite of Jason Vorhees with the intent of cremating the body and putting all of this behind Tommy.

Iconic Scenes and a New Take on Jason

What we get is one of the most iconic scenes in horror/slasher movie history! Tommy freaks out and starts stabbing Jason with a piece of metal, lightning strikes it and brings Jason back to life. I have probably seen this seen 50 times in my life and it never gets old! It is so much fun and I would go as far as to say it is the most iconic scene in the entire Friday the 13th franchise.

This is a very different Jason from the one we had before and it is what most of us think of when we think of Jason Vorhees. This undead Jason is stronger, faster, and more deadly than ever before! Plus, he is already dead so how the heck are you going to put a stop to his murderous ways?

Classic Slasher Fun with a Twist

Tommy tries to warn the sheriff, but this jerk is having none of it. The sheriff locks up Tommy and Jason starts his rampage! This is a very typical Jason movie and that is what I love about it. I feel that this one goes that extra step with the kills and it also has some great humor, like the movie is winking at the audience, but it never feels cheesy or out of place.

Concluding the Tommy Jarvis Arc

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives is a great way to bring the story of Tommy Jarvis to a close. To be honest with you, I feel that everyone involved did a wonderful job of giving Tommy a good send-off here. I actually think that having one more movie with Tommy would have been a big mistake.

I just love this movie, it is fun, plain, and simple fun. When I think of what a typical Friday the 13th movie is, it is this and Part III that come to mind. This is a blast from start to end. I love the new super Jason and seeing Tommy face his fears and give the audience hope that he can now live a normal life is pretty awesome stuff.
