Gen V

I love the Amazon Prime show The Boys and I was so pumped up when I heard that there was going to be a spin-off called Gen V. Gen V takes place in the same universe as The Boys, and from what I have read, it is happening at the same time as the upcoming season 4 of The Boys.

How to Download Gen V

Gen V premiered on September 29, 2023, and you can download or stream it from Amazon Prime Video. Click on the Download button at the end of this review.

The Movie Review

Now, as I write this, only the first three episodes of Gen V are on Amazon Prime. The remaining five are going to be put on Amazon Prime each Friday. Anyway, I binge-watched the first three episodes and thought it was fantastic! This feels just like The Boys which I guess is the point, but I was very impressed and surprised by just how well this fit in with The Boys.

The Universe of The Boys

In The Boys, the show takes place in a world where superheroes or “supes” are a normal part of everyday life. The Vought corporation and The Seven are who pretty much rule the USA, but the supes that make up The Seven are far from the clean-cut good guys that Vought International would make you believe.

Gen V’s Unique Perspective

In Gen V, we see how those who became part of The Seven or those who are heroes or movie stars got to where they did. Gen V is set in a college that trains the next generation of supes called, The Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. When I saw the trailers and heard what Gen V was all about, I was a little worried that it would be a “teen” style light version of The Boys….. I was way wrong!

Marie Moreau’s Story

The main character that we have so far in the first three episodes is Marie Moreau. When she is a kid, Marie enters puberty and her powers appear! Turns out that Marie can control blood, making it a weapon and pretty much making it do whatever she wants. It is a kind of gross power, but it is so fitting in the universe of The Boys.

A New Beginning

Marie accidentally kills her parents as she cannot control her powers and she ends up in what I assume is a foster home for young supes. Marie gets accepted into The Godolkin University School of Crimefighting and we meet her roommate, Emma, who can shrink and goes by the name of Little Cricket.

A Star-Studded Campus

I got a real kick out of how the big man on campus here is a guy called Luke/Golden Boy and he is played by Patrick Schwarzenegger, the son of Arnold! Golden Boy, Andre, Cate, and Jordan are the cool kids here and in no time at all, Marie ends up hanging out with the popular supes at the school and getting thrust into a mystery/conspiracy that will take her on a path to show if she really has what it takes to be a hero.

Fun and Excitement in Gen V

Gen V so far (again I have only seen the first three episodes) has been a great deal of fun. It is over the top violent, bloody, and full of the craziest sexual stuff you will see in a TV show. There is a scene with Little Cricket in the opening episode that is perhaps the funniest sex scene that I have ever seen. If you liked The Boys, you will have a ton of fun with this, I think it is awesome how close to The Boys this is.
