Godzilla vs. Kong

Godzilla vs. Kong was easily one of my most anticipated movies of 2021. So far this “monsterverse” thing that Warner Bros has done has been a lot of fun. This is a movie that I paid to watch on Amazon Prime and this along with a couple of others this year has made me miss going to the movie theatre less and less which is a damn shame, but it is what it is.

The Movie Review

There will probably be spoilers in this review so if you have still not seen the movie, be sure to quit out of this review now as this is your warning! This follows on from the events of Godzilla: King of Monsters so you do need at the very least to have seen that movie and Kong: Skull Island too!

Godzilla is on the rampage and this time humanity thinks that they have a way to stop him. Kong is the answer to what is going on! It is decided that if they can get Kong to go to Hollow Earth that there is a power source there, they can use to fight off Godzilla and put a stop to his destructive rampages.

I was surprised to read that some people had a problem with the whole hollow earth things. I thought the stuff in hollow earth was awesome and really enjoyed how it expanded the lore of the titans. Plus, the reason that they need this power source is pretty damn awesome and something I thought that I would never see.

There is a solid cast here with actors such as Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, and Shun Oguri to name just a few of them. Usually, in a movie like this or ins something like Transformers, the human characters get on my nerves, but that was not the case here. I feel that they really added to the overall plot and much of what they did felt like it made sense in this crazy world.

Godzilla vs. Kong is a great-looking movie. The battle scenes between the two and of course when they team up to face another foe is spectacular. As I said before, I really enjoyed the stuff in Hollow Earth too, in all it is just an amazing-looking movie and it has some of the best special effects of any movie that will be released in 2021.

I do wonder where this leaves the monsterverse. Clearly, this was originally designed as the endpoint for the series, but there is now talk that it could continue. I would be all for that, but I do wonder how you top something like this, perhaps Song of Kong could be a good way to continue things going forward?

Fun is easily the best word to use to describe Godzilla vs. Kong. This movie is a blast and I really enjoyed watching it. I am not 100 percent sure I liked it better than King of the Monsters, but it was damn close. If you have enjoyed the other movies in this series, you 100 percent have to make time to watch this!
