The Film Review
The Plot
Gone Girl revolves around Nick Dunne, a writing teacher, whose wife Amy disappears on their 5th anniversary. Amy’s disappearance causes an uproar in the media due to her being the inspiration for her parents’ popular children’s book series called Amazing Amy.
Due to signs of blood and little evidence, Amy is assumed to be dead with Nick being the prime suspect for carrying out her murder. After further investigations made by detectives, Nick is revealed to have an affair with one of her students, declaring that his relationship with Amy was constantly on the decline.
Amy’s diary further cemented the suspicion as she wrote how she was afraid that Nick might one day kill her ultimately. Alternatively, it is displayed how Amy is alive and well and that she actually went underground herself in order to frame her husband for her death.
Amy had planned her kidnapping based on the treasure game that she used to play with Nick on their anniversary. By taking help from her pregnant neighbor, she cleverly lured in Nick to eventually get him executed for her apparent murder.
Nick hires a lawyer who particularly solves cases for men who are accused of murder and rape. Nick and his lawyer then visit Amy’s ex-boyfriends who reveal that she falsely accused them of actions that they never committed include rape and murder.
Nick makes an appearance on television and publicly reveals his mistress, thereby apologizing for the man he had become. Amy, who is currently living in her ex-boyfriend’s house, feels empathy for Nick.
Consequently, she murders her ex-boyfriend and reappears, claiming that Nick did not cause her any harm. Despite knowing the truth, Nick decides to stay together with Amy as the two announce the expectancy of a child.
Gone Girl: the Movie Production
Gone Girl is a film which, similar to its theme, had to be produced in a very sleek manner. The film itself is a mixture of cleverness, combined with chunks of romance and a handful of blood. For this reason, around 50 takes were conducted for each scene.
With a solid storyline already at hand, the success of this film mostly had to rely on the skills of the cast, which one can admit, was improvised quite well by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.
The Music
The filmmakers announced how the English musician Atticus Ross would be conducting the main score for the film. Ross was mainly chosen due to previous successful collaborations between him and director David Fincher.
The Bottom Line
Overall, Gone Girl is a very intense film that requires viewers to be cautious of all the surroundings displayed within the sequence. The film managed to gross over $369 million at the box office and was mostly received with positive reviews along with constructive criticism.
