As I said a while back in my review of the first Halloween movie, as a kid, Halloween III: Season of the Witch was the first movie in the Halloween series that I saw and as a result, I have a major soft spot for this movie. I can see why at the time, Halloween fans were very disappointed, going from Michael Myers to this, however, I have always loved this and it is a movie I will often watch during the Halloween season.

The Movie Review
The Vision Behind Halloween III: Season of the Witch
One of the interesting things about Halloween III: Season of the Witch is that series creators John Carpenter and Debra Hill thought that Halloween could be an anthology series with each movie being its own contained story. While I liked that Michael Myers came back, I do think that they had something with this idea and supposedly, they had many ideas for other Halloween anthology movies, but Season of the Witch was the first and only one they would do.
A Different Kind of Horror
This is a very, very different movie to the slashers that came before. Halloween III: Season of the Witch has sci-fi elements to the story as well as some “witchy” stuff as well. A man called Harry is running through the streets with a weird mask, being pursued by a guy in a suit! Harry eventually ends up in the hospital, where he is murdered by another man in a suit.
The Mystery Behind the Silver Shamrock Masks
Harry’s daughter, Ellie, goes to the hospital where Harry was taken. Ellie along with the DR, who is called Daniel, realize that something is off and they head to California to check out the Silver Shamrock Novelties headquarters as that is where the strange mask is from. If I am being honest, outside of the weird “sci-fi” twist that happens with Ellie, Ellie, and Daniel are kind of forgettable characters and do not have much in the way of personality.
The Sinister Plan of Conal Cochran
Turns out that the masks being released by this company are a mixture of magic and technology. You see, Conal Cochran, the guy responsible for these masks has pagan roots and he wants to use these masks to kill people as a sacrifice. How does he do this? Well, each mask has a scraping of a fragment from Stonehenge in it and that is what causes the masks to kill the person wearing them. It is kind of weird, but it actually works and you do wonder if they will be able to stop this all from happening.
The Iconic Silver Shamrock Commercial
The most memorable thing about Halloween III: Season of the Witch for me has to be that commercial. You know, when it comes to Halloween in general, that awesome commercial for the masks maybe my favorite thing about the franchise! Hey, I am sure some hardcore Halloween fans are yelling at me right now, but as I said, this was the first movie in the series I saw, so I have a ton of nostalgia for it.
A Nostalgic But Imperfect Horror Experience
If I am being honest, I do watch Halloween III: Season of the Witch with my nostalgia goggles on. This is not a perfect movie, it is a fun one, but it is not exactly a movie with a ton of substance and characters you will actually care about. Still, it is a fun watch and a movie that I can always have a good time with, even if I can admit that I can clearly see why some people do not like it.
