When I heard that Adam Sandler was making Happy Gilmore 2, I was mind-blown! Happy Gilmore is my favorite 1990s comedy and my favorite Adam Sandler movie. I am a huge Adam Sandler movie and Happy Gilmore stands at the very top of his body of work for me. I have seen that movie since I was a teenager, and it still makes me crack up now, I am in my early 40s!
Where to Watch Happy Gilmore 2
Happy Gilmore 2 was released on July 25, 2025. You can stream the film from Netflix.
The Movie Review
However, with me loving that movie, I saw no way that a sequel could work! How the heck do you make a sequel to Happy Gilmore, and what is the point? Still, I was interested to see how it would work, and when the casting announcements were being made, I was praying that this would at the very least be good.
Is Happy Gilmore 2 Worth the Hype?
This movie is getting slated, to be fair, most of Adam Sandler’s Netflix movies have, and I so far have liked them all. I am going to say that I do not see how they could have done a sequel to Happy Gilmore better than what they had done here. I laughed, it tugged on my nostalgia strings, and by the end, I had been very entertained. Now, I am a huge Adam Sandler fan, but if you are not, do not watch this movie; you will not like it.
Divided Opinions
The strange thing about this is that I have read many people say that they loved the first one, but hated this. I get that we all have our own opinions, but I do not see how you could hate this if you enjoyed the first Happy Gilmore. It has the same style of humor, and it is dumb as hell, but that is all part of the charm.
The Plot
We see that after the first movie, Happy Gilmore became an even better golfer, winning several championships, getting married, and having five children. However, as great as Happy Gilmore’s life was going, a stray golf ball killed his wife! This led to him hitting the bottle and losing his fortune. Happy still wants to be a great dad for his kids, but he cannot get over what happened to his wife.
A creepy tech bro comes to Happy with a new idea for golf, but Happy turns him down, making him an enemy of him in the process. This leads to Happy and a team of real golfers having to take on this dude in an extreme version of golf. Look, there is no way to write about Happy Gilmore 2 and make the movie sound like it makes sense. It is a dumb and over-the-top ride, and you have to just go with it. If you get it, you will have fun; if you cannot get past how dumb it is, you will not.
Cameos and Easter Eggs
The cameos in Happy Gilmore 2 are awesome, there was one that took me a second to realize who it was, and when I did, I was like NO WAY! Golf legend John Daly plays an awesome role in this movie; he was a blast! We also have some great wrestling cameos, which I got a kick out of with AEW star, MJF, playing one of Happy’s kids. This is an Adam Sandler movie, and all of his buddies are here, and that is cool, but it was great to see him playing alongside his two real-life daughters.
Best Moments and Returning Characters
There are so many great throwbacks to the first Happy Gilmore. Ben Stiller as Hal, Happy’s AA coach, was awesome. However, the show stealer here has to be Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin; these two had amazing chemistry in the first movie, and it is even more fun here, with an insane Shooter and Happy having to work together.
Final Verdict on Happy Gilmore 2
I loved this movie, granted, it is not as good as the original Happy Gilmore, but this is an unnecessary sequel that turned out so much better than I thought it would. At the end of the day, if you have not liked the movies Adam Sandler has made the last decade or so, this will not change your mind. However, if you do still like Adam Sander movies, give your remote a little tap, tap taperoo on the Netflix button and give this a watch.
