Homestead

I am always up for a post-apocalyptic movie/TV show or video game so that is why Homestead caught my attention. Plus, this sounded like a real passion project for Neal McDonough who I think is a great actor so I wanted to give it a try. Plus, the idea of this being set at the start of when society goes to hell was something that I thought sounded interesting.

The Movie Review

The Plot of Homestead

The plot of the “movie” (more on that in a moment) is that there was a nuclear bomb released in LA that has devastated the country and people are just trying to do what they can to survive. While many people have been killed, we also have survivors who are just trying to make sense of it all and stay alive. This is where ex Green Baret, Jeff comes into play who along with a woman called Evie and her kids are making their way to somewhere that could be safe.

The Survival Struggle in a Collapsing Society

Well, there is a big compound run by two billionaires. These are preppers, and I guess if you are into the whole prepper thing, you will get a kick out of this huge compound and the steps they put in place to try and survive something like this. Our survivors make their way to the compound where they try to fit in, but survival when society has gone to hell is easier said than done.

They have to deal with some pretty tough stuff, rats eating their food and hunters wanting what they have are two real huge blows that the group of survivors have to face. The thing with Homestead is that it is not all that exciting, it is not boring, but you just feel like you want more. They have a great setup and a great premise, but it never delivers on this, but it very well could!

Homestead as a Pilot for a TV Show

What do I mean by that? Well, turns out that Angel Studios have made this as a kind of pilot for a TV show, that is right, this is pretty much two episodes of a TV show put together as a movie. I guess the hope is that the movie does well enough to get people interested to check out the TV show.

The movie does leave you wanting to know more, and when you know that this is supposed to be a TV show, that does make sense. I can see some potential here as a TV show, but as a movie, this was kind of lacking, and while I was very invested at the start and wanted to see how this would all play out, it never really gives you anything.

Will You Watch the Homestead Series?

The series is available for download and streaming on the Angel Studios website, but I have not yet made the effort to watch it. This was interesting, I did not love it, but I did kind of like it and perhaps when I have a lull in TV shows and I am looking for something new to watch, I will watch the TV show. If you like post-apocalyptic world type stuff, this could be something you get into.
