Being from the UK, I see Hugh Laurie as something of a national treasure and I have enjoyed many of his performances over the years. House was one of those shows that I kept meaning to watch and for a while, the first two seasons were saved on my DVR! However, I ended up deleting them, thinking I would never get around to watching them.
How to Download House

The Movie Review
Quite a few years ago I was off work sick as a dog and my father-in-law popped around and brought with him seasons 1 and 2 of House. I ended up binge-watching the first two seasons of House while I was off and I freaking loved it! It was such a smart, witty, and also funny drama. It is very easy to see why so many people list this as one of the greatest TV shows of all time.
The thing about House is that when you explain to someone what it is, it sounds like your standard medical drama show. Our main character is Dr. Gregory House who is a medical genius and leads a team of diagnosticians at a teaching hospital. He has a real dislike for people, has an addiction to pain pills, and is as far from perfect as you can get.
However, he is a fantastic and well-written character that is brought to life by Hugh Laurie perfectly! The idea of the show is that he and his team need to diagnose patients’ illnesses and ailments and the way he goes about it is usually as blunt as can be and it can be so great to see.
He is always at odds with other members of his team, those above him in the hospital, and pretty much anyone else who looks at him funny. He is such a great character in that on one hand is brilliant, but on the other he is an addict, he is terrible in social situations and it is easy to see why despite his brilliance, he would be a nightmare to work with.
One of the things I loved about the show and this is where most of the humor came from was House trying to get out of doing his standard consulting (or whatever you want to call it) for the hospital. When he would do it, he would be grumpy and end up finding out what is wrong with people in record time.
House changes things up when he gets a new team to work with after season three and I have to say, I think the team he gets in season three is a much better mix and the show had a bit more excitement about it and that is not just because I have a thing for Olivia Wilde. There are a few changes here and there throughout the rest of the series, but I think the show does a great job in exploring and developing other characters as well as Dr. House himself.
At 8 seasons with 177 episodes, House is a show that does take up a lot of time to watch. This is the kind of show that is very addictive so do not be surprised if you end up binge-watching three or four episodes at a time! You know, now that I think about it, I am probably due a rewatch of the whole series sooner than later!
House has been all over the place as far as streaming goes! It has been on Netflix, Peacock and now I think it is on Amazon Prime, well it is here in the UK. As it floats around, you may want to just get the DVD or Blu Ray which as I write this is dirt cheap for all 8 seasons or you could buy them individually if you want. Either way, it is a relatively cheap show to add to your collection and well worth doing so.
- I would argue that House is Hugh Laurie’s best ever performance
- The ensemble cast is also very well developed
- The show is a drama, but the humor that is sprinkled in is very clever
- This is a fantastic show to binge watch as each episode is very entertaining
- The streaming rights to this seem to change all the time!
- I do think that the show gets better after season three
