I already talked about I Know What You Did Last Summer, but the man with the hook is back in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, a fantastic sequel that I like even better than the first movie. This is weird as the first movie was well received, but I am certainly in the minority when it comes to people who like this one better….. and no, it is not just because of the crush I had on Brandy!

The Movie Review
A Worthy Sequel to a Classic Slasher
Released in 1998, just a year after the last movie, here in the UK, this was rated 18 and I was not yet 18. I cannot remember what other movie was playing at the same time, but my friends and I paid for that movie and then snuck into watch this. It was well worth the risk as I loved this and to this day, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is a favorite slasher movie of mine.
The Plot – A Vacation Gone Wrong
The movie takes place a year after the events of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Julie, one of the two survivors is at college in Boston and she is having a hard time letting go of what happened to her. Her roommate, Karla (Brandy) tries to get her out of her shell, but it just does not work.
Karla and her boyfriend Tyrell (Mekhi Phifer) try to take her to a club where we meet our other new character, Will Benson, played by Matthew Settle. Will clearly has a thing for Julie, but Julie and Ray are still together, with Ray still living in their hometown, and working as a fisherman.
A Mysterious Trip to the Bahamas
Karla ends up winning a contest. The contest is an all-expenses trip for four to the Bahamas, Karla and Julie freak out and Karla says that Julie can invite Ray. Ray for some reason is a jerk about this and says no, leading to Karla inviting Will instead, which Julie thinks is some kind of setup. This, my friends, is how we get our four “heroes” to this island resort.
Oh, before we get any further, I have to talk about one of the side characters, a dreadlock, weed smoking dude called Titus who is played by Jack Black, before Jack Black became a huge star. While he is not in the movie a ton, he is honestly one of the most memorable characters from the movie and he is a lot of fun.
A Vacation Turns into a Nightmare
Turns out that this prize was not all that great. You see, it is typhoon/hurricane season and the resort apart from our four main characters, only has a few members of staff there. Plus, the weather is super crazy, meaning that they cannot really do anything apart from hanging out inside, but that was the plan all along. The place was packed with people having fun when they got there, but that was the last day of summer vacation here.
Julie tries to have a good time, but a few things happen that make her freak out. Well, turns out Julie had a good reason to freak out as the killer from the first movie is back and no spoilers, he is not working alone! Ray finds out about this and heads to the island to try and save the day, how Ray made it on that rinky-dink boat in this extreme weather is beyond me.
A Fun Slasher with a Great Twist
This is just a really fun movie and the reveal of who is helping our killer was really well done and something I did not see coming. Although his name is a bit on the nose, I still had a lot of fun with it, “it’s not my blood Julie” was such an awesome line and I remember a few gasps in the cinema when it was said.
This is one of those movies where I honestly have no idea why people did not like it. This is just a really fun slasher with a great cast and an awesome location and it even tries to add a bit of lore to the killer too. Granted, it does play it very safe with the slasher formula, but I do not think that is a bad thing here at all. I Know What You Did Last Summer and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer make for an awesome back-to-back experience.
