I have recently reviewed I Know What You Did Last Summer and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and I praised them both very highly. It took quite a few years for a third movie to be made, but in 2006, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer was released and boy does this one suck!

The Movie Review
Ok, to be fair, I think that if this movie was called something else, it would be an ok ro at least passable slasher movie as it does have its moments. However, it is the third movie in this series and you just have to wonder what the heck they were thinking with this one. This was released straight to DVD and I was very excited about it and actually picked it up the day it was released as I was such a huge fan of the other two movies.
I knew that we had a new cast of teenagers and that Julie and Ray were not going to be there. However, I still had hope that this could be a good and fun slasher movie like the other two were. If you had asked me a few weeks back my thoughts on this movie, I would have given it like a 2/10. I watched all three movies back to back and I was expecting to hate this one even more than I thought I did. Yet, I was surprised and I did not dislike it as much as I remember doing so.
A New Setting and a New Mystery
Going ahead there will be spoilers so be warned! There is no way to spoil the main issue this movie has without giving away the reveal. The movie is set in Colorado, which is weird as the first movie was set in North Carolina. Anyway, the word of the Fisherman killer must have spread as a group of five teenagers planned a prank.
Our group of teenagers are, Amber, Colby, Zoe, Roger, and PJ. They plan a prank that will make people think that PJ is killed by the Fisherman, but it goes wrong and PJ actually dies. To be fair, this is a pretty solid setup and while it is cheesy as hell, I also think that the “prank” scene is a lot of fun.
A Deadly Secret That Returns to Haunt Them
The teens do not get in trouble though! People think that the Fisherman is back and think that PJ was actually murdered, meaning that if they keep their mouths shut, they can get away with people knowing they were involved. The teens decide to take this to the grave and try to move on with their lives which as Julie taught us in the first and second movies, is easier said than done!
Like the first movie, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer fast-forward a year and Amber returns home after being away. Things are not what they were, just like in the first movie, but things are about to get worse as she and her friends are stalked by someone who knows what happened last summer. Right now, you may be thinking that the plot here is pretty much the same as the first one…. And you are kind of right.
A new character joins the mix, Lance, who was the cousin of PJ and he and our other teens try to figure out who knows what they did. However, our teens do not last long as the Fisherman starts killing them. I did not do a count, but I feel that the body count is a lot higher in this movie than it was in the last one.
The Ghostly Twist That Ruined the Movie
Ok, here is the twist and the thing that made me hate and I mean hate this movie for many, many years. Turns out that the Fisherman killer here is not a copycat or someone that they know, it is the ghost of Ben. That is right, there were no supernatural elements in the first two movies, but our hook killer Ben is back and now he is a ghost/zombie and can only be killed by the hook that he uses to kill others.
Watching the movie now after many, many years, I just had fun with it and took it for the silly slasher that it is. It is not a great movie by any means, but to be fair, I have seen worse slashers. If this was called something else and did not have Ben/the Fisherman in it, it would have been passable. I think at the time it came out, I was so excited for a new I Know What You Did Last Summer, it really shocked me that they tried to take it in a supernatural direction. It is by far the worst movie in the series, hopefully, the 2025 movie will get things back on track.
