To say I was shocked by the time the credits of Immaculate rolled is the understatement of my movie-watching year! I always love to see a horror movie in the theatre when I can, but Immaculate was on very sparingly at my theatre so it was a pain in the butt to find the time to see it. I am so glad that I did as this was some pretty brutal stuff and I have to say that it was far better than I thought it would be.

The Movie Review
The Magnetic Pull of Sydney Sweeney in Immaculate
A huge part of the appeal of Immaculate is Sydney Sweeney. Sydney Sweeney is a superstar and while Madame Web did not set the world on fire, her performance (and the clothing that she wore at the premiere) was a hot topic for a while. She is just so likable and that rings true for her performance here and I am sure many people will get invested in the story because of her.
The Haunting Tale of Cecilia: A Journey from Miracle to Nightmare
Sydney Sweeney gives a great performance as she plays the role of Cecilia. When Cecilia was a child, she was in a drowning accident and dead for several minutes, but she survived. Cecilia was sure that she was saved for a reason and decided to become a nun and dedicate her life to God.
The Creepy Convent: A Setting of Sinister Secrets
Cecilia is offered the chance to move to Italy where she will join Father Tedeschi in Italy to serve God at a special convent that looks after ailing nuns. Cecilia sees this as a great opportunity, but pretty much as soon as she gets there she realizes that this place this very strange. This place just gives off major creepy vibes right from the moment that we see it.
A Sinister Turn: The Convent’s Dark Revelation
Things get even stranger. Despite being a virgin, Cecilia is somehow pregnant and her baby is seen as the second coming. Things at the convent get even weirder as Cecilia realizes that there is some messed up stuff going on here and she needs to get the hell out before it is too late, which is easier said than done. The easy comparison to make with Immaculate is Rosemary’s Baby. While similar, it is also very different in the way it executes its story.
Immaculate’s Perfect Pace and Shocking Finale
Immaculate comes in at a very short 90 minutes and to be honest with you, that is the absolute perfect runtime for this movie. The opening ten or so minutes do not exactly zoom by, but pretty much as soon as we get Cecilia at the convent things ramp up and never stop all the way to that final shocking and brutal scene! I feel that if they had made this a longer movie, it could have lost most of its appeal.
The Gore and Silence: Reflecting on Immaculate’s Impact
I was shocked by how gory and violent this movie was! This has a couple of jump scares that are a bit on the tame side if I am being brutally honest. However, the gore and the pure violence of the stuff we see do not hold back and I found it to be shocking. I was stunned when that final scene went down and while the theatre was not busy, it had a kind of stunned silence as the credits rolled.
A Must-See for Horror Fans: Why Immaculate Stands Out
Immaculate is a movie that seems to have poor to mixed reviews for the most part, but I thought this was fantastic. Sydney Sweeney is going to become a major Hollywood star so I doubt she will do movies like this much more as her star rises. I found the story here to be very interesting and the gore was awesome and a very welcomed surprise! If you are able to go and see this at the theatre before it ends its theatrical run, I highly recommend that you do.
