Finally, after a year delay due to Covid-19, Jungle Cruise hit the big and small screen and it is one of the best family movies of the year. Based on the Disney ride of the same name, Disney went for that Pirates of the Caribbean approach with this movie. With an all-star cast and some amazing special effects, movies like this show why Disney is still one of the best around.

The Movie Review
The movie stars Emily Blunt and Jack Whitehall as brother and sister duo, Lily and MacGregor Houghton. Lily is a Dr. and adventurer and she is on the hunt for The Tears of the Moon, which is a tree that has petals that can cure any disease. Her quest takes her to South America where she has a map that tells her the most likely location for this tree.
The brother and sister dynamic is great as Lily is brave, daring, and focused. MacGregor on the other hand is used to a life of luxury and is more along to support his sister than anything else. In South America they need to charter a boat so that they can get to where The Tears of the Moon are and it is here, they come across, Frank Wolff, The Skipper who is played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
This movie has a great cast with Paul Giamatti playing a guy who gives Frank a really hard time at the beginning of the movie. Jesse Plemons plays Prince Joachim who is a crazy German who wants the Tears of the Moon and is willing to go to extreme lengths to get it back!
I do not want to go into spoiler territory here, but Jungle Cruise does share many similarities with Pirates of the Caribbean. The movie at first has you thinking it is a traditional action and adventure story, before throwing in supernatural elements. It is all done very well and the perfect movie to watch with the family.
If you have been on the Jungle Cruise ride, you are going to appreciate this movie even more. The way they use some of the schticks from the ride and even little nods to it like the hippo coming out of the water are awesome little touches. This is a movie that well and truly has that “Disney magic” we all love.
I think that fun is the best way to describe this movie. Also, since the Covid-19 restrictions have started to lift, this has been the most packed I have seen at a movie theatre, so I think it is going to do very well at the box office. As well as being released in theatres, Jungle Cruise is also part of the whole Premier Access thing on Disney Plus like Cruella and Black Widow was.
This is just a really awesome movie that has a little bit of everything. It looks fantastic too with some amazing special effects. If you enjoy family movies and movies that have a lot of action and a great sense of humor then you are going to have a great time watching Jungle Cruise.
