The Film Review
Released on 16th July 2001, Jurassic Park III starts as we get to see how Dr. Alan Grant has become involved in Jurassic Park. In order to aid his research, Paul and Amanda Kirby, an apparently wealthy couple, offer Grant huge funding if he gives them an aerial tour of Isla Sorna. Grant reluctantly agrees and sets out with the couple along with a few other people and mercenaries consisting of Billy, Udesky, Cooper, and their pilot Nash.
Grant is knocked out by Cooper as it is revealed that the Kirbys intend to land on the island. Trouble hits as soon as they land as Cooper is consumed by a Spinosaurus after which, it destroys the plane, killing Nash in the process as well.
The survivors flee and the Kirbys confess that they are a middle-class divorced couple who are looking for their 12-year-old son Eric, and Amanda’s boyfriend Ben, who had gone missing. Ben’s body is discovered as he is found dead meanwhile, Grant realizes that the Raptors are searching for something they value.
As Grant becomes cornered by the Raptors, Eric suddenly appears and manages to save him. Grant discovers that Billy stole two of the raptors’ eggs which provoked them after which, they are forced to surrender them back to the raptors. The group barely manages to escape from the island and in the midst of their struggles, Billy also apparently dies but is later revealed to have survived after taking serious injuries.
Much to everyone’s surprise, Jurassic Park III did not nearly do well as compared to its previous two editions. Despite the efforts made by Joe Johnston along with his team of animators, the film was deemed as an unnecessary sequel. Fans and critics complained about how the storyline had become too predictable to surprise its viewers as it simply became too boring too quickly.
Apart from that, the visual effects also seemed to have lost its wow factor despite efforts made by Industrial Light & Magic. The raptors had an unusual color pattern attached to them whereas, the iconic T-Rex, which was loved by fans in Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park, had been replaced by a seemingly weird dinosaur which was simply just bigger in size. The film only managed to achieve a rating 50% on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to Metacritic’s 42%, indicating that the fans had mixed reviews.
Overall, Jurassic Park III is a film full of action and adventure. Despite its lack of in-depth graphic details, the film still has much to offer in terms of its traditional action and adventure. The film nevertheless displays classic Jurassic Park intensity thanks to some fabulous acting by the cast which keep the viewers at the edge of their seats.
