Longlegs was one of those movies that I was on the fence about actually going to see in the theatre. Well, I am so glad that I did as this was one of the best horror/thriller movies I have seen in the theatre this year! The wife and I actually went to see Alien: Romulus and after we came out of the theatre, we noticed that Longlegs was starting in 45 minutes, we decided to do a double feature and go and see Longlegs that same day, after refilling on snacks of course!

The Movie Review: Nicholas Cage Shines in Longlegs
Nicholas Cage has been in some great movies in the last few years (and some typical “Nic Cage” ones too) and I would put this one right up there with some of his best recent work. The trailer for Longlegs pretty much gives you the gist of what is going on here, this is a movie about a strange serial killer.
We have this FBI agent called Agent Lee Harker and Lee is part of this taskforce that is trying to take down a killer known as Longlegs. The movie takes place in the 90s and for years, there have been these strange murders/suicides that all have a letter with Satanic writing on them left at the scene with the signature, Longlegs on it.
A Killer Without a Trace: The Mystery of Longlegs
There is never any evidence of someone else being there when the murders take place, but the writing on the notes is always the same and never from the husband who does the killing. Lee has a deep personal connection to this case and we basically follow her as she tries to catch Longlegs and figure out what is going on here. No spoilers, but I loved the direction that this movie went. You never know for sure if it is a supernatural thing or just a serial killer thing and when the reveal comes, it is awesome!
A Well-Wrapped Thriller That Satisfies
One of the things that I have to give the movie a ton of credit for was how it wrapped things up. I am so sick of horror movies or thriller movies having an open ending where it is left up to the viewer to figure out or decide what happened. Quite often when my wife and I are watching a movie one of us will say “I bet this is going to have a bull s**t ending” Sadly, the horror genre (our favorite) seems to be the most guilty of this.
There was a time when I thought for sure Longlegs was going to go this way, but that was not the case at all! I loved the way that the movie explained everything at the end, it was all wrapped up and explained so well and I was thoroughly entertained by the end of it, so much so that I got straight on my phone and texted a few people that they needed to see this while it was on. From what I understand, it has been a solid hit for this rather small studio so I hope it leads to far more stuff like this coming from them. In many ways, it had some Blumhouse vibes about it and that is meant as a great compliment!
A Must-Watch for Serial Killer Thriller Fans
If you love serial killer thrillers that keep you guessing and wanting to know more, Longlegs is a movie that I am sure you will have a great deal of fun with. We get a really fun and super creepy Nicholas Cage performance here, it kind of reminds me of Ethan Hawke in The Black Phone!
