Ok, let me tell you this right away, it is going to take something really bad to top Love Again as my worst movie of 2023! I did not like this movie at all, it has a decent cast and the writer/director is someone that I like too, but this movie was just not good. I came so close to walking out of this one, but my wife actually looked like she was enjoying it so I thought I better not ask!

The Movie Review
Love Again is written and directed by James C. Strouse who has made a few movies I like such as Grace is Gone and The Winning Season. That along with a cast that featured the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Outlanders, Sam Heughan, and Celine Dion playing herself I thought could have made this a decent romantic drama, but it was not enough to save this.
The cinema chain that my wife and I use is called Cineworld and we have these Cineworld Unlimited Cards that allow us to see as many movies as we like for one monthly fee, it is awesome. While it is great as we go to the movies so often, it is extra great when we see something as bad as this and we feel like we did not actually pay to see it!
The premise of the movie is that we have this woman called, Mira Ray (Priyanka Chopra) whose husband passed away and she is having a hard time moving on. As a premise, I can get behind that, it is something that has been the backbone for many successful and entertaining romantic dramas over the years.
To try and cope with her husband being gone, she sends him loving and sometimes funny texts to his old phone. The twist here is that her husband’s number has been given to someone else, a journalist called Rob (Sam Heughan) and he starts to fall for her based on the texts that she is sending to her late husband. It is as predictable as it comes, but again, I could get into this.
The strangest part of this movie is that Rob is writing an article about Celine Dion so he is spending time with her (she plays herself) and she gives him advice on what he should do. He wants to go and meet her and try to win her heart as he really has fallen for her. Look, I love romantic and sappy stuff like this, but this movie did not click with me at all.
I could not even put my finger on what is wrong with this movie. It just falls flat in pretty much every regard. I know the writer/director is good, and I know that the actors are good, but everything about this movie is meh at best. Sometimes this happens, it doesn’t mean that the people behind or in front of the camera are “bad” just that the project they were all working on was.
Now, remember how I said I thought my wife was liking the movie Well, my wife said that she thought the movie was ok, she would give it a 6 or 7 out of 10. Let me tell you, that is way higher than I would have scored this! I was bored to tears and if it was not for the sharing bag of Wispa Bites (awesome UK chocolate) and large Pepsi Max, I may have gone insane!
