I remember taking my son to see Turbo and we saw the first trailer for Mr. Peabody & Sherman. As the movie featured a talking dog, my son was all about it and I thought that it looked like a lot of fun too. I had vague memories of this pair on reruns of Rocky & Bullwinkle that I watched when I was a kid, so I was into checking this out as well.

The Movie Review
As the movie was being made by DreamWorks and with The Lion King co-director Rob Minkoff at the helm, I was sure this was going to be fun. DreamWorks does a great job in making “kids’ movies” that are just as much fun for adults. I think this is a fun movie and one that just kind of came and went without leaving the long-lasting impression that other DreamWorks movies like How to Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda did.
While I would say that Mr. Peabody & Sherman is a comedy, it is also an adventure and science fiction movie too. However, it also has that trademark DreamWorks heart too. The story of the movie is about the smartest dog in the world, Mr. Peabody who adopts a baby called Sherman that he raises as his son.
The duo is able to travel through time thanks to the WABAC (way back) machine! They go on all kinds of adventures and while his family life is exciting, Sherman has a really rough time at school. He is always being picked on by a girl called Penny, she makes fun of him and says that he is a dog.
Well, Penny and her parents are invited round for dinner and Sherman shows her the WABAC machine and before you know it, she is lost in time! This leads Mr. Peabody & Sherman on a wild adventure to ancient Egypt to try and get Penny back. While the movie is played for laughs, there is a fair bit of educational value here too.
There is a fantastic voice cast here with Ty Burrell as Mr. Peabody and Max Charles as Sherman. The supporting cast is great too with the likes of Ariel Winter, Leslie Mann, Stanley Tucci, and Patrick Warburton to name just a few. I love the way that Burrell delivers his lines and Mr. Peabody and his puns that go over Sherman’s head are hilarious.
I think that Mr. Peabody & Sherman is a great-looking movie and it has that DreamWorks quality to it. It has a very bright and zany kind of look to it, and the way they go to different times gives the movie a lot of variety too! I think that what is done here is great, but there is just something about it that makes it less memorable than some of the other stuff DreamWorks has done.
Mr. Peabody & Sherman is a fun movie that just never caught on like some of the other stuff DreamWorks has done. While it may have been a flop at the box office, I found that most who watched it did enjoy it. If you and your kids like this, check out the Netflix show that is based on this movie as that is a lot of fun too.
