I have a real soft spot for the My Hero Academia series. I would probably put this as number three on my all-time anime list. Just behind Dragon Ball Z and One Piece in case you were wondering! I have reviewed the My Hero Academia movies before (Two Heroes, Heroes Rising, and World Heroes’ Mission), but today I am sharing my thoughts on the series.

The Movie Review
The reason that I love this series so much is that first of all, it is awesome. However, watching this with my son, playing the video games, and seeing the movies has been something that we have enjoyed together. It is a show that I feel is great no matter if you are 12, 22, or even in your 40s like I am.
As I write this there are six seasons of My Hero Academia and the sixth season has not finished yet. I am waiting for all 25 episodes to air before I jump in and get caught up with season six. Anyway, there is no way that I can tell you what goes down in all five seasons that have aired so far, so I will give you the basics and my thoughts on why this is such a great show.
Our main hero of the show is a kid called, Izuku. Izuku lives in a world where many people have powers and these are called Quirks. Izuku dreams of becoming a hero, but without a Quirk, he is just a regular kid, but he still has hopes of one day becoming a hero. The mightiest hero in this world is called All Might!
A chance encounter with a villain made from sludge has Izuku meet All Might! At first, All Might dismisses Izuku’s dreams of becoming a hero which is kind of crushing to see. However, Izuku has the heart of a hero and a heroic act that All Might witnesses makes him see that Izuku is worthy of his power.
The thing is, Izuku cannot just get the power of All Might. He has to train and prove himself worthy and that is what he does! Izuku then starts to attend the prestigious U.A. High School, a school that trains superheroes! Here he learns that being a hero is far more complicated than just fighting a series of bad guys!
The origin story of Izuku getting to the school is some of the best stuff I have ever seen in an anime. I was completely invested and then it just grows and grows from there. He makes friends at the school (as well as some not-so-friendly encounters) and the core group of characters that we have is great, but for me, it is the heart of a hero which Izuku has that really clicked with me.
As the seasons progress, new threats are added, new characters are introduced, and so on. However, I feel that the heart of the show, heroes wanting to do what is right, never fades away and that is why I love the show so much. I also highly recommend you check out the various My Hero Academia movies as well as they are all fantastic, some tie into the main series more than others.
Over the five seasons I have seen (and I have no reason to doubt that season 6 won’t be awesome) My Hero Academia is a show that I have enjoyed immensely. It is an awesome show, it is pretty much exactly what you would think an anime based on superheroes would be. It has way more heart than you would think thanks to the incredibly well-written characters.
