I was very interested to watch New Amsterdam. I would say that 90 percent of what I was reading about this show all said the same thing. The first two seasons are great and it went downhill after that! The show could not have that big a drop-off, could it? My wife and I have enjoyed medical dramas before so we decided to give this one a try…. And the people were right, it does go downhill after season 2.

The Movie Review
The premise of New Amsterdam is great. The setting of the show is a public hospital called, the New Amsterdam Medical Center in New York. This place has seen better days that is for sure. The building is a bit of a mess, the facilities need updating and it is horrifically understaffed.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel for the New Amsterdam Medical Center and that is Dr. Max Goodwin who is played by Ryan Eggold. Dr. Max Goodwin has become the new medical director at New Amsterdam and he sees this as a challenge and a great opportunity.
You see, Dr. Max Goodwin has the most upbeat attitude around and he wants to make this the best place for people to get the care that they need. He knows that the hospital is understaffed and underfunded, but his can-do and positive attitude does start to catch on. I think he is a great character and you just really like him and the fact he gets cancer makes you root for him even more!
The thing with this hospital is that in each episode, you never know what the heck is going to come through the doors! This makes for a very entertaining show and some of the episodes can be very tense. We have a great cast here, I especially loved seeing Tyler Labine playing a doctor as I have been a fan of his for years since I saw him in Reaper many years ago.
Now, the first two seasons of New Amsterdam are great, anyone who tells you this is right on the money. Yes, there is a bit of “politicalness” about the show and the issues that they tackle. However, it was always the characters and their desires to do good that ultimately drive the show.
That all goes out the window with season three! Season three of New Amsterdam is one of the biggest drop-offs for a TV show I have ever seen. Do you know how people like to throw the term “woke” around? Well, that is exactly what the people behind this show did and I hated it!
Instead of being a show that was about the characters and the doctors wanting to do good and putting the patient first, each episode is like it has this agenda that is trying to be so “good” and so politically correct in what they think is right, that it ends up being a major turn-off. They also started having characters acting differently too, Dr. Goodwin, for example, is like a moron in some of the episodes.
The wife and I did watch all of season three, but we decided that was enough for us. Hey, New Amsterdam seasons 4 and 5 could be great and get things back on track, but by the time we reached the end of season 3, we were done. Hey, if you want a great medical drama, check out the first two seasons, they truly are fantastic…… ditch the show after that, season three is honestly as bad as everyone says it is.
