Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi is another smash hit Star Wars TV show from Disney Plus. Say what you will about the Disney-made Star Wars movies, but the three live-action shows (and even the animated ones) they have done so far have been phenomenal. I would rank this up there with the very best that Disney Plus has to offer, not just for Star Wars, but in general.

The Movie Review

The story takes place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are all but gone and those who remain are brutally hunted down by Darth Vader’s Inquisitors. Obi-Wan is keeping the promise he made at the end of Revenge of the Sith by watching over young Luke Skywalker.

It was kind of strange to see Obi-Wan just living a normal life as Ben Kenobi, working a regular job and just “living”. Obi-Wan has left the Jedi way behind him as he wants to watch over Luke, but he also knows how dangerous it is for Jedi to show themselves. Of course, his solitude does not last forever and he is called into action.

He is contacted by Bail Organa after Leia has been kidnapped. Obi-Wan agrees to help and this is where the real adventure begins. The twist here is that Darth Vader is obsessively looking for Obi-Wan as is The Third Sister, a dangerous Inquisitor who has a very short fuse and is actually one of the best characters in the show.

For as much as the show is about Obi-Wan Kenobi, this is also a story about Reva, The Third Sister. We get to see Reeva’s origin story and get a little glimpse of how The Inquisitors work. What I liked about the portrayal of The Inquisitors was how they kept much of it a mystery and did not show too much, it made them seem even cooler.

Reeva has a strained relationship with The Fifth Brother and The Grand Inquisitor. Reva is seen as being a bit of a liability by the other Inquisitors due to her rash behavior. However, there is also a twist to Reva’s story and it is pretty awesome and gives her a very interesting connection to Darth Vader himself.

A huge part of the show is the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin. I cannot stress enough how awesome it was to see Euan McGregor and Hayden Christiansen play these roles again. They get a lot of screen time together, way more than I thought they actually would and it does not disappoint.

We not only get to see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader square off more than once in the show. We also get to see Obi-Wan and Anakin as well which was really awesome to see. This is just textbook Star Wars and it is so much fun. The people behind the show are clearly Star Wars fans and know what makes a Star Wars show good!

I was absolutely blown away by Obi-Wan Kenobi. I had high expectations going into this and the show somehow surpassed them! I really hope that they do make a second season, with the two main actors wanting to do it, hopefully, it will happen. This is Star Wars at its absolute best and a must-watch!
