With an awesome cast, I thought that Regretting You could be a fun romantic drama. Young Mason Thames, who has blockbusters, How to Train Your Dragon and Black Phone 2 under his belt in 2025, is a real star on the rise. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of another actor who has starred in two bigger movies than this in 2025.
Where to Watch Regretting You

The Movie Review
Regretting You Falls Short Despite Talented Cast
Along with Mason Thames, we also have the incredibly talented McKenna Grace, Alison Williams, Dave Franco, Scott Eastwood, and Willa Fitzgerald in roles, too. You know, writing that down makes me realize just how stacked the cast for this movie is. It is hard to think of another movie in 2025 that has a cast as strong as this one.
However, Regretting You is up there as one of the worst movies that I have seen in the theatre this year. I will not lie and say I was super excited to see this, but with the cast and the decent trailer, I thought this could be a good time. However, this is just a strange movie that is like it does not know what the heck it wants to be.
Plot Breakdown: A Confusing Web of Relationships
The basics of the story are that we have a family that consists of mom, Morgan, dad, Chris, and daughter, Clara. They are friends with Jonah and Jenny, who are a couple, with Jenny also being Morgan’s sister. Oh, to make it a bit more confusing, Jonah and Morgan kind of had a thing back in the day. We also have Mason Thames’s Miller, who is friends with McKenna Grace’s Clara, a friendship that could become more.
Regretting You Tries Too Hard to Hit Emotional Notes
This is just an absolute mess. In my opinion, this is supposed to be a slice-of-life movie that shows the complexities of marriage and life, but it did not click with me at all. The movie is trying way, way too hard to tug on heartstrings and hit you with waves of emotion, but I was honestly bored. Despite loving the cast before I saw the movie, I did not care for most of the main players here. Dave Franco is a good actor, but his performance here is straight up weird, almost like he was not sure if he was supposed to be playing certain scenes for laughs.
Clara and Miller’s Teen Romance is the Bright Spot
I will say that the teenage romance between Clara and Miller is probably the best part of the movie. But the romance drama (no spoilers here) with the other characters feels more like some high school relationship drama, than actual real life if that makes sense. To be fair, now that I think about it, with these characters having children themselves so young, I wonder if that was the point?
Final Thoughts: A Long Two-Hour Watch
Coming in at around two hours, Regretting You is one of those movies that felt like it lasted a lot longer than it actually did. Even with the good cast, this was not a good movie. The plot felt like it was trying way too hard to be real and hard-hitting, and as a result, the movie was kind of boring. I have to be honest, I am not sure this is one that I will be giving a second chance when it hits streaming.
