It has taken a while for me to get around to writing a review for Sinners, but that is because I knew the moment the movie ended, I would be making the effort to see this in the theatre again and I finally did. The fact that this is still on at my local theatre around a month after release and it is still on multiple days is pretty awesome and shows that the general audience will support a movie like this.

The Movie Review
It has taken a while for me to get around to writing a review for Sinners, but that is because I knew the moment the movie ended, I would be making the effort to see this in the theatre again and I finally did. The fact that this is still on at my local theatre around a month after release and it is still on multiple days is pretty awesome and shows that the general audience will support a movie like this.
Sinners Plot: When the Real Threat Isn’t Crime but Vampires
Anyway, the brothers return home and discover that crime is not the major issue here, vampires are! I refuse to go into any more detail than that about the plot here! I loved the fact that there were different “levels” to the vampires and that the twins had a similar goal, but had very different ideas about how to go about achieving it.
Storytelling and Pacing: Why Sinners Stands Out
The pacing and the way the story is presented is just so well done. Like From Dusk Till Dawn, the first part of the movie starts off “normal” before things ramp up to a supernatural fight for survival. There are some great characters here, and the 1930s Mississippi setting is very well done. I also have to say that the use of music in this movie is very clever, and that was something I missed from the trailer, so it was a very welcome surprise in regards to how big a part music played in the movie.
Visuals, Budget, and Practical Effects
People at WB clearly had a lot of faith in Ryan Coogler, as this is a pretty high budget movie and not a penny was wasted. Sinners is easily one of the best looking movies of the year! The sets, the costumes and the general attention to detail to this time period is fantastic. Oh, with this being a movie about vampires, there is also some awesome gore here, a great deal of which was done with practical effects and it looks awesome.
Sinners Rewatch Value: Why It’s Worth Seeing Again
The thing with a movie like this is that on paper, Sinners should be a one and done, once you know the twist, the movie surely loses its appeal right? Well, that is not the case, like From Dusk Till Dawn, which I have seen many times, Sinners was even better on my second viewing. If this is still showing in your local theatre, you owe it to yourself to go and see it, this is in high contention for my movie of the year!
