The year 2012 was a weird year for the story of Snow White. There was Mirror Mirror which was more of a family/kids movie and then there was Snow White & the Huntsman. I feel that it is fair to say that Snow White & the Huntsman is a movie that took many people by surprise and it is one of the better live-action adaptations of a fairytale.

The Review Review
Most people before they see this movie will know the basic story of Snow White. However, I do feel that Snow White & the Huntsman does enough of its own thing where it keeps the soul of the classic story, but it certainly makes it it’s very own.
The basic of the story is that the evil Queen Ravenna married Snow Whites father killed him off and is now ruling the kingdom in the most evil way. She wants to stay young forever, but to do that she drains the youth from the kingdom. Basically, she wants to stay young and she will do anything in her power to do that, including ripping out the heart of Snow White!
Snow White is pretty badass in this movie and her along with The Huntsman will come together (eventually) in order to try and stop the evil queen. The story is actually great and it had me hooked from the very beginning, but what really nails this movie for me is the performances.
Queen Ravenna is played by Charlize Theron and I think it is my favorite role she has ever done. She is not just bad, she is flat out evil in this movie and does some truly horrific things. She is pure evil, but they do give her just the littlest bit of humanity and it actually works very well and does not feel forced. She is by far the star of this movie and you are captivated by her the whole time she is on the screen.
For me, a great bad character always has to believe that what they are doing is justified, no matter how screwed up their logic is and she has that! Then we have Snow White who is played by Kristen Stewart. I am not a Kristen Stewart fan I feel she plays the same role in every movie and has like one facial expression, but it works in Snow White & the Huntsman.
She has been locked up for years, saw her dad die and she clearly has a ton of issues. Kristen Stewarts rather blank expression is actually perfect for this role and she does it very well. She turns into a bit of a badass and the whole time we are building to a showdown with her and the Queen and let me tell you it does not disappoint. It is like something out of a video game!
The other main character is Eric, The Huntsman who is played by Chris Hemsworth. I am a huge fan of his, but he is not actually one of the standout characters for me. Do not get me wrong he does a good job and is an interesting character, but the real characters you actually care about are Snow White and The Queen.
I was not sure what to expect the first time I saw Snow White & the Huntsman, but I thought it was a great time and had me on the edge of my seat. Charlize Theron is absolutely fantastic in this movie and I have to admit, Kristen Stewart does a heck of a job too. This is not just a “fairytale” it is a dark, brooding and sometimes bloody action movie and it is a ton of fun to watch.
