Released just a year after the huge hit that was the original Wayne’s World. Wayne’s World 2 was not the commercial or critical hit that the first movie was. Despite that, I love this movie and I actually prefer it over its predecessor, but I am fully aware, I am most certainly in the minority in that regard.

The Movie Review
At first, Wayne and Garth are loving life and everything is great. Wayne and Garth still have their TV show, which is now filled in an abandoned doll factory. Wayne is also still dating the beautiful Cassandra, whose music career is really starting to take off. Garth is, well Garth is still Garth, but he does get a bit of a love interest this time around.
Wayne’s Dream and Wayne Stock
The main plot point of Wayne’s World 2 is that Wayne is visited in a dream by the ghost of Jim Morrison and a naked Indian, Jim tells Wayne that he needs to put on a music festival. Waking from the dream Wayne informs Garth of this and he and Garth decide to put on Wayne Stock, the greatest musical festival their town has ever seen.
The Role of Bobby
On top of this, we also have several other plots that are happening at the same time. Cassandra’s music career is taking off thanks to a new manager called Bobby. However, Wayne is jealous of Bobby, and for good reason too, he is successful and handsome and he does have his eyes on Cassandra. Eventually, Wayne’s jealousy drives Cassandra away and he vows to win her back.
Bobby is played by Christopher Walken and Christopher Walken could not be any more awesome in this role. Christopher Walken plays the role of Bobby 100 percent straight and he is a great foil to Wayne. So good that you do want to see Wayne put Bobby in his place and put on one hell of a great rock show.
Challenges of Organizing Wayne Stock
Putting together the rock show does not go as smoothly as Wayne had hoped and it all looks like it is going to be a colossal failure. One of my favorite parts of Wayne’s World 2 is the roadie that the hire, Del. Del is freaking awesome and his extreme training methods always make me laugh, as does his story about having to kill a shopkeeper with his own shoes!
The Famous YMCA Scene
The absolute highlight of Wayne’s World 2 has to be the famous Village People, YMCA scene. This scene is so well done and clever, Wayne and his friends are spying on Cassandra and Bobby as they have lunch. Only to be caught and they all end up on stage at a gay bar, having to perform YMCA for a rabid audience. I have seen this scene so many times and it still manages to crack me up.
Garth’s Love Interest
Garth also gets a chance to shine here too. Garth meets this gorgeous woman played by Kim Basinger and she seduces Garth. However, it is not exactly what Garth thinks it is and it turns out that she wants Garth to kill her husband. The way Garth freaks out is hilarious and the awkward comedy of Dana Carvey just nails this whole subplot.
Final Thoughts
I can see why some may feel that Wayne’s World 2 to the silliness and slapstick stuff a bit too far and it is certainly goofier and sillier than the first movie, but that is what I love about it. I have watched both movies many times and I tend to watch them back to back. Yet, if I was only going to watch one of these movies, Wayne’s World 2 would always be the one that I pick. If Wayne’s World is a 9, this is a 9.1.
