Spy Kids: Armageddon is the fifth movie in the franchise that started all the way back in 2001! I watched the first four Spy Kids movies with my son, we liked the first two, thought three was okay, and did not like four at all. Spy Kids: Armageddon is okay, it had some fun moments and I would say for kids who are under 12 it is probably a fun time. I have certainly seen way worse kid’s movies let me put it that way.

The Movie Review
Director Robert Rodriguez’s Return
Once again Robert Rodriguez writes and directs the movie, it is his baby after all. Speaking of his baby, I thought it was really cool how he wrote the script with his son. The thing with Spy Kids: Armageddon is that it is an action movie made for kids and that is not a bad thing, but it does feel like it is playing it very safe.
New Cast of Characters
We have a new cast of characters this time around, but it is still set in the same universe as the other movies. We have Nora and Terrance Tango who are played by Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi and they are super spies. I like both of these actors and I felt that they did a good job here. Nothing great, but nothing bad either, just right in the middle at good.
The Villain and His Plan
Some evil video game designer called Rey The King Kingston has managed to unleash this virus that gives him control over all technology. I think the fact we have a video game-type theme for the villain getting control of stuff will greatly appeal to kids. Heck, I am in my early 40s and even I thought it was kind of cool.
Young Heroes Step In
As you would expect from a Spy Kids movie, something happens to mom and dad and the kids need to step in to save the day. The two kids are called Tony and Patty and they are played by Connor Esterson and Everly Carganilla. These two kids do a good job in their first big role.
Basic Plot and Positive Message
The brother and sister have to become spies in order to not just save mom and dad, but the whole world. The plot is about as basic as you can get and pretty much what you would expect from a Spy Kids movie. The movie comes in at around 90 minutes which I think is ideal as it keeps it moving and even though the whole friendship and love thing is done to death, I like that it has a nice message at the end for the kids.
Visual Effects and Conclusion
I was impressed with some of the special effects, I thought that with this being a Netflix Original, it may have been a bit cheap looking, but the CGI was not bad at all here. By the time the credits rolled, I thought that it was ok and I think ok is probably the best way to describe this movie. I watched this with my son who is now 15 and way too cool for Spy Kids and he said he thought it was dumb. Younger kids though, I am sure will have fun with this.
