Star Trek: Picard

Let me start by saying that Captain Picard is my Star Trek Captain! I grew up with Star Trek: The Next Generation as my Star Trek so I have always preferred that series and its movies over the originals. Hell, I have a love for Earl Grey Tea to this day that is all because Captain Picard liked it!

The Movie Review

I will say that how you watch this show will depend on where you live. The show was something that was produced by Paramount + for that streaming service. However, where I live, in the UK, Picard is actually shown on Amazon Prime as one of their own shows with no Paramount + subscription needed.

As much as I loved Star Trek: The Next Generation, I was not sure we needed a sequel to it. I remember reading that the show was going to be slower-paced and more character driven and I thought that sounded interesting. Plus, they had Sir Patrick Stewart reprising the role of Jean-Luc Picard and that is awesome!

The first season is a more slower-paced story than the other two. It takes place a couple of decades after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis and Picard is still having a hard time dealing with the death of his friend Data and what happened to Planet Romulus. It was interesting to see Picard after all these years and him trying to just live his life on a vineyard felt just so typically “Picard”.

Picard though is not able to just retire and drink wine all day! Picard is visited by a young woman, a synthetic being who claims that Data is her father and she needs Picard’s help! Boom, I was sold and invested right away. Picard is just such a classic hero and a character that I think is just portrayed so well by Sir Patrick Stewart, even after all these years.

I feel that with season two of Picard, we got a much more “Star Trek” kind of story, we even get more characters from The Next Generation showing up which was awesome. Q is back and he traps Picard and his friends in a new reality that forces them to have to travel back in time to save the day.

This whole story arc felt like something that could have been in the original Next Generation series or even as a movie. I think that Picard Season Two is better than the first. It still has a slower pace to it, but it felt much more “Star Trek” than that first season did. This was especially true with the returning characters.

Star Trek: Picard Season Three is where it is at! I loved season three and think it is the best season of Picard and one of the best seasons of any Star Trek show. It was like it all clicked for the people making the show and they realized exactly what the fans of Star Trek really wanted.

We pretty much have the whole crew back, this is the Next Generation crew and that is awesome! We find out that Picard has a son and now the Borg is also back and causing trouble. I love the Borg and I especially love Seven of Nine from Star Trek Voyager and seeing her here was incredible.

I loved Star Trek: Picard and felt like it was a show where each season got better. I think that it brought the story of Jean-Luc Picard to a close pretty much perfectly and it was so great to see Sir Patrick Stewart in this role once again. I love the X-Men, but when I see Sir Patrick Stewart, it is always Jean-Luc Picard I think of way before Professor X!
