Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

I decided to wait until all eight episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew had aired before I watched the show. I get some people still like having weekly episodes, but I am over it, I much prefer to binge watch a season these days and that was what I did here. Let me tell you, after The Mandalorian, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew may very well be my favorite Disney Plus Star Wars show!

The Movie Review

That is saying something too as I have found them all enjoyable. We all heard the stuff before this came out, people saying that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was like Goonies or Star Wars if Spielberg had made it back in the 80s. The Goonies comparisons are honestly pretty much perfect, hell, there is even an episode where they literally go into a pirate’s lair and come face to face with the remains of a legendary pirate just like in Goonies!

A Group of Kids on an Unexpected Space Adventure

This is just fun plain and simple! The plot is about a group of four children. We have Wim who is a human and a kid with a wild imagination. Neel is a freaking adorable elephant-looking character and a case of merch bait if I have ever seen one, by the way, I need a Star Wars Vintage Collection figure of Neel like yesterday! These two are best friends and they have a great dynamic.

In addition to Wim and Neel, we also have Fern who is like the cool girl, she is pretty badass and out of the kids, she was my favorite character. Fern’s best friend is KB who has a visor on her head which gives her kind of tech abilities. These two pairs of friends would normally have nothing to do with each other, but one day, when Wim is running late for school, it all changes.

Discovering a Hidden Starship

You see, Wim falls off his speeder bike and comes across something buried in the ground, he is certain it is a Jedi Temple, and he and Neel plan to go and check it out after dark. Fern hears about this and she and DB also go to check it out, Fern by the way is certain that whatever this thing is, it is not a Jedi Temple.

A Legendary Hidden Planet

Turns out that Fern was right! The four kids explore this “thing” and they discover that it is in fact a starship and then end up blasting out of the protective camouflage of their home planet and head into the stars! On board is a droid called SM-33 who Fern convinces that she is the new captain of this vessel. SM-33 is awesome, he acts and talks like a pirate and he is such a fun character.

As you would expect, the kids are freaking out, but their home planet is hidden and not on any star systems so they have no idea how to get home. SM-33 takes them to a spaceport…. For pirates and that is where we meet our next main character. Jude Law plays the role of a pirate who our kids break out of jail with, who I will call Jod, but he goes by many names in the show and I do not want to spoil anything.

A Mysterious Guide and the Quest for Home

After helping the children escape, thanks to his Force abilities, Win is sure that Jod is a Jedi and must be good. The kids agree to a deal where Jod will help them get home and he will be rewarded for it. Turns out that the planet these kids are from, At Attin is something of a legendary planet amongst pirates as it is said there is an unlimited amount of treasure there.

Twists, Turns, and a Fantastic Cast

There are some great twists and turns in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the best of this is Jude Law’s Jod. I thought that Jod was a fantastic character and even right up until the end, I was never 100 percent certain if he was good or bad. This is a character I would love to see more of in the Star Wars universe. I also want to say that the four kid actors in this show were fantastic, I thought that all four of them did an incredible job.

A Fun Star Wars Show for the Whole Family

This is just a really, really fun show. It is the kind of show that the whole family can enjoy. It has funny moments, interesting characters, and some awesome action and it tells a very good story. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a single thing about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew that I did not like. I have to give it a near perfect score as the only bummer about it is that Disney has reported it has performed the weakest out of all their shows so a second season is not something that is guaranteed.
