The Film Review
The Avengers displays how the Asgardian Loki plans to invade Earth after making a deal with the Chitauri leader, the Other. In exchange for the retrieving the Tesseract, the Other promises to provide Loki with the army he needs. Loki in-turn, travels to Earth and takes the Tesseract and hypnotizes physicist Dr. Erik Selvig, along with a couple of S.H.I.E.L.D agents including Clint Barton. In retaliation, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, Nick Fury, activates the Avengers Initiative by making his subordinates contact Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Dr. Bruce Banner, and Black Widow.
The heroes face off against Loki in a short encounter after which he surrenders. Thor (be sure to also see other movies with this superhero, for example, Thor: The Dark World or Thor: Ragnarok) shows up and tries to free Loki but after confronting with Stark and Rogers, he agrees to shift Loki to a S.H.I.E.L.D facility. Before The Avengers could determine what to do with the powerful staff, a hypnotized Barton attacks the Heli carrier and manages to free Loki.
Loki combines the tesseract with a device that Selvig built to open a wormhole, opening a pathway for the army to invade earth. Rogers, Stark, Black Widow, Barton, and Thor move forward to defend the earth and give the impression that they are the ultimate protectors of the earth. An action-packed fight takes place, after which The Avengers come out as victorious by defeating the army. Meanwhile, Thor takes Loki and the tesseract back to Asgard.
The Avengers was basically a film which would determine the future of the franchise. For this reason, director Whedon along with the visual-effects supervisor Jeff White had to work extremely hard on a project that featured six superheroes, a villain, and an extra-terrestrial army. According to Jeff White, one of the biggest challenges they faced was to visually create most of the New York city that was displayed in the film.
Adding to that, White stated that one factor that they had to make sure was right was Bruce Banner’s alter-ego, the Hulk. White stated that he wanted to make Hulk as photo-real as possible, by making him seem adjustable when he was sitting or interacting with the other Avengers. Apart from that, White’s team also had to work on many other features such as the overall design including the skin and armor of the army sent by Chitauri.
The main score of the film was recorded by the same man who composed the score for Captain America: The First Avenger, namely, Alan Silvestri.
Overall, The Avengers became an absolute hit along with a foundation over which many sequels have already been made. The Avengers became the first Marvel production film to cross over $1.5 billion worldwide on the box office. The film also received a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the Academy Award. The Avengers with its jaw-dropping action scenes, topped with some sleek graphic designs, makes the film a must-watch for people of all ages.
