I think that if you made me pick between Pixar and DreamWorks, it would be a hard choice, but given the last few movies, I think that I would have to say that I very slightly prefer DreamWorks by like, point 5 of a point! DreamWorks is just willing to take more risks, and I think that their last few movies have walked the fine line of being great for kids and adults just a tad more than what Pixar has been offering. Hey, I still love Pixar, but that is just the way it is, although Elio was fantastic!
Where to Watch The Bad Guys 2
The Bad Guys 2 was released on August 1, 2025. You should be able to stream it from Peacock or other digital platforms in 2-3 months from its theatrical release.
The Movie Review
The Bad Guys was released in 2022, which is kind of crazy, as that movie feels way more recent to me. The original was brought to us with a script by Ethan Coen and directed by Pierre Perifel. The Bad Guys 2 sees them at the helm again, along with JP Sans and Yoni Brenner lending a helping hand in the directing and writing departments.
You could argue that The Bad Guys did not need a sequel, but sequels are all the rage these days, and I had faith in DreamWorks and that they would nail this, and that is exactly what they did. I feel like this summer has been pretty good for sequels, to be honest with you, and this is another solid one, and a movie where I feel comfortable saying that if you liked the first movie, you will like this.
What to Expect from The Bad Guys 2 Storyline
What we have here with The Bad Guys 2 is once again a heist kind of movie. Just like the first movie, think of a kids/family version of stuff like Reservoir Dogs and Swordfish, and you will have the basic idea of what to expect with this movie. They take what they did in the first movie, bad guys trying to go straight, and just expand on it more here.
Voice Cast and New Characters
We get the same very talented voice cast from the first movie. I said it then, and I will say it again: The Bad Guys has one of the best voice ensemble casts of any movie, and The Bad Guys 2 is even better! In addition to the returning cast, The Bad Guys 2 adds in the awesome Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne, and Maria Bakalova.
Plot and Themes in The Bad Guys 2
The Bad Guys, led by Mr. Wolf, are trying their best to go straight and live a relatively normal life. This is easier said than done! A new crime trio called The Bad Girls is committing epic crimes now, and The Bad Guys are pulled into trying and catch them, but they end up being forced to help them out! If they do what The Bad Girls ask, they can clear their names and potentially live a normal life…. But things do not go as you would expect.
Characters Shine in This Sequel
What makes The Bad Guys 2 so much fun is the characters; sure, the heist stuff is great. However, each of the characters gets their chance to shine, and when you consider what a large cast this is, that is pretty impressive. Could The Bad Girls have been fleshed out a tad more? I guess you could argue that, but I have a sneaking suspicion that a Bad Girls movie may be something that is coming sooner than later.
Final Thoughts on The Bad Guys 2
This was another fun heist/crime caper movie with a great cast of characters and lots of wacky slapstick style humor. It is hard to say if this is better or not quite as good as the first Bad Guys movie, but I do feel that Bad Guys 2 more than holds its own. If you are looking for a fun movie to watch with the kids, I highly recommend this. I am really pulling for this at the box office, but DreamWorks did release it at a very busy time.
