The Kardashians

I never in a million years thought that I would be the one to review The Kardashians, but here we are! I had seen the odd episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians over the years as my wife watched it, however, I was never really a huge fan of reality TV. Here in the UK, The Kardashians is actually on Disney Plus and despite not watching the last few seasons of the original show, my wife wanted to give this a try.

The Movie Review

Look, I consider most reality TV shows like this to be “trash TV” but I do not mean that in a derogatory way, although many of them are straight up garbage, but I call them pure garbage TV! There is nothing wrong with trash TV, it is the kind of programming you can watch after a hard day of work, turn your brain off, and just be entertained. That is pretty much what we have with The Kardashians.

As you would expect, we get a little glimpse into the lives of The Kardashians, Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney, their half-sisters Kendall and Kylie along with their mother Kris. While they are the main cast members of the show, the rest of the extended friends and family cast flesh things out and I actually found some of those people more interesting.

Being a big Blink 182 fan I found the stuff with Travis Barker who is hooked up with Kourtney Kardashian to be the most interesting part of the show. To be honest, that was what got me to keep watching this show with my wife! Hey, anything with Travis Barker in it, can’t be that bad right?

I will admit that I thought that this was going to be mostly superficial stuff and there is a ton of that do not get me wrong. However, some of the stuff such as Kim struggling with her son seeing an ad for her sex tape is kind of heartbreaking. Look, these people are multi-millionaires and have lives that us normal folks could never imagine.

However, I do think that they try to show that even with all the money and fame in the world, you can still have family drama and problems like everyone else. I did not think that the show was too obnoxious with this either, trying to make us think that these people have it so bad like I have seen other reality shows do in the past.

One thing (and this may just be me) I always wonder about reality shows is just how much of it is fake. I would wager that most shows like this are planned, but this one never came across as too fake. There are clearly some situations and scenes that have been set up, but that is true of any reality show and this one is not as obvious for the most part as many of the others are.

I would still not say that I am a “Kardashian fan” however, I will admit that whenever my wife said, “I am going to watch a couple of episodes of The Kardashians, do you want to watch it?” 9/10 I said yes. Look, it is reality TV and with that, you know what you are getting. As I said earlier, this is a show where you can just turn your brain off and enjoy it for what it is. It is not a great show, but at the same time, I have seen way worse reality TV shows than this one!
