The Film Review
The movie is set four years after the events of Jurassic Park. After a young girl named Cathy Bowman is attacked by a swarm of Compsognathus, it is revealed that dinosaurs are still alive on a location called Isla Sorna, where InGen initially created and tested the dinosaurs before moving them to Isla Nublar.
The ex-owner and creator of InGen, John Hammond, summons mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm and asks him to document the dinosaurs discovered. Ian, along with equipment specialist and engineer, Eddie Carr, and Nick Van Owen head over to Isla Sorna where the encounter InGen’s official team of mercenaries as well including their current owner Peter Ludlow. It is revealed that Ludlow and his team are attempting to capture the dinosaurs and shift them to a new proposed theme park in San Diego.
In retaliation, Ian and his team set the captured dinosaurs free, causing chaos in the whole camp. The dinosaurs end up killing most of InGen’s team, meanwhile, Ian, along with his wife and daughter, manage to escape from the island through a helicopter.
Just as things were about to become normal, a transporter ship carrying a male T-Rex crashes which leads to the T-Rex escaping and wandering off into the city. Ian and his wife try to lure the T-Rex back into its cage, but Ludlow interferes which leads to him being killed by an infant dinosaur. The dinosaurs are brought back to Isla Sorna and the government agrees to declare the land as a nature preserve.
After Jurassic Park’s success in 1993, the novelist and filmmakers were pressurized by fans to come up with a sequel to the film. After much consideration by stakeholders of the franchise, shooting finally began from the 5th of September in 1996. Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) was chosen as the main animation country to work on this project. ILM mainly focused on computer-generated imagery which enabled them to feature larger shots which in-turn provided more space for the digital artists to fit in the dinosaurs in the overall frame.
Although technology had not advanced by a great deal since the previous film, the animators and designers still managed to provide better lighting, along with a more detailed muscle tone for the dinosaurs.
The main theme song of the film was composed by John Williams and orchestrated by Conrad Pope and John Neufeld. The soundtrack was released on 30th April 1997 by MCA records.
Similar to its previous edition, The Lost World: Jurassic Park also turned out to be a huge success. The film grossed over $618 million and also received a nomination for Best Visual Effect at the Academy Awards. The film is spectacularly full of action and adventure, however, due to the bloodshed and gore involved, it is not recommended to view in front of children.
