I legit do not understand all of the negativity surrounding The Marvels. It was like before the movie came out, lots of people decided that they did not like it. Blame it on MCU fatigue, superhero movie overexposure, or the lack of a solid promo push from Disney. No matter what you blame it on, there is no denying that there was a ton of negativity surrounding this movie before it hit theatres.

The Movie Review
I can tell you that this was the fewest amount of people I have seen in a theatre opening weekend for any MCU movie that I have seen! Yet, when the credits rolled, people for the most part were smiling and seemed to have had a good time. I am not saying this is a great movie or one of the best in the MCU, but it was a fun time and I would not be against seeing it again.
The best thing about The Marvels is the chemistry between our three lead ladies. Captain Marvel destroying the AI that ruled over The Kree led to the slow destruction of their home world. This paved the way for a new leader to try and bring life back to the planet at the expense of places that Captain Marvel holds dear.
I will be honest, the main villain in Captain Marvel is extremely forgettable and one-dimensional. While their motives kind of make sense and I liked how Captain Marvel had built up this mythical destroyer of the world status with The Kree. At the end of the day, I had forgotten the name of the main villain by the time the credits rolled!
The “gimmick” of the movie is really fun as the ability to jump through space has somehow linked Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau (she is also in WandaVision), and Kamala Khan together. Each time they use their powers, they switch places, no matter where they are in the universe. The effects here are very well done I have seen a lot of terrible CGI in superhero movies in the last few years, but there was nothing here that stood out in a negative way.
Eventually, they figure out what is going on and the three start to work together and form this awesome trio. With this being a Disney movie, you may think that the whole “girl power” thing is forced, but that is not the case at all. These three feel like a very natural team and their chemistry is fantastic.
Kamala Khan: The Standout Character in The Marvels
My favorite of the three has to be Kamala Khan! Kamala Khan is just so likable and her back-and-forth with her mother in the movie is so much fun. We also get to see her experience the heartache and true brutality of war as well. This is sure to play into her becoming a bigger and more focused part of the MCU which is actually teased in the movie.
Analyzing The Marvels’ Runtime and Impact
A lot of talk about the runtime has been floating around, but it actually works to the movie’s strength. You see, there is no filler here at all, the runtime keeps the moving forward, and as a result, it makes it a lot of fun to watch. Honestly, I am not sure what they could have added here that would have fleshed it out in any kind of meaningful way. Far too many movies these days have an obnoxiously long runtime so I am glad this one did not.
I will admit that I was not as excited as I have been for past MCU movies as I sat down in my theatre seat. However, The Marvels ended up being a movie that I had a lot of fun with and it opens up some major things for the MCU going forward. One bit of advice I will give you is that make sure you stay for the mid-credits scene, but there is no need to stay for the end one, it is just a soundbite and a complete waste of your time!
- Our trio of badass ladies are awesome together
- I liked how we saw the negative effects of Captain Marvel's heroics from the first movie
- The special effects looked great
- It got me very pumped for the future of the MCU
- The villain of the movie was not that great
- Are we at a point where it is quantity over quality with Marvel movies and shows?
