Another legacy sequel??? Ok, when I first heard that there was a new Naked Gun movie, my first thought was that it was completely unnecessary. I grew up watching The Naked Gun movies, and I have vivid memories of me and a bunch of friends going to see The Naked Gun 33 1/3 when it released, going out for pizza after, and then hitting the arcade. They had a great cast, led by the legendary Leslie Nielsen, and they were just fantastic and super funny slapstick comedies.

The Movie Review
The more I heard about The Naked Gun 2025, which I guess we have to call it, as it shares the exact same title as the original, the more interested I got. Seth MacFarlane was attached as a producer, and the director is Akiva Schaffer, who did the fantastic and criminally underrated Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers live-action movie. By the way, where the heck is the 4K physical release of that? I have had to make due with a bootleg Blu-Ray in my collection as Disney has not released it physically.
Anyway, Liam Neeson came on board as the lead, and that pretty much sold me on this. Liam Neeson plays the role of Frank Drebin Jr, the son of Leslie Nielsen’s character in the original trilogy. Liam Neeson plays this as straight as an arrow, and that is what makes the comedy in this movie work.
What Is The Plot of The Naked Gun (2025)?
The plot of the movie is that the Police Squad is starting to see Frank’s renegade cop antics as a liability, but he is needed when crooks steal something that is literally called The Plot Device! That right there sets the tone for the movie, and in addition to trying to stop the bad guys, Frank falls in love and comes to terms with who he really is. At the end of the day, you do not come to a movie like The Naked Gun for the plot, do you?
Is The Naked Gun Actually Funny?
What you really want and need to know about a movie like this is if it is funny. Let me tell you, The Naked Gun is up there as the best movie theatre experiences I have had this year! The whole theatre was cracking up, and this movie was just joke after joke after joke! I would say that for me personally, at least 90 percent of these jokes landed, and there was a great blend of slapstick comedy, dad jokes, and even some raunchy. I was not sure they could still do that kind of comedy as well.
Liam Neeson and the Cast Shine in The Naked Gun
The whole movie just works so very well, and a huge part of that is the cast. Liam Neeson is wonderful in this role, and the whole movie just works around his straight laced acting. It was awesome to see Pamela Anderson in a big-time movie again, and there are some epic cameos, including Weird Al Yankovic, Cody Rhodes, and Busta Rhymes, being the ones that I got the biggest kick out of.
Should You Watch The Naked Gun (2025)?
Fun is the best way to describe The Naked Gun 2025. I think this movie works if you were a fan of the original movies, and it also works if this is your first foray into the crazy world of Police Squad and Frank Drebin, well in this case, Frank Drebin Jr! I thought that this would be a fun time, but this as of writing, this is the best comedy I have had the pleasure to watch this year. These comedy legacy sequels are on fire. I loved Happy Gilmore 2, and this has gotten me more excited and hopeful for the new Scary Movie and Space Balls movies.
