Directed by Steven Spielberg and featuring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, The Post was a big deal when it was released. The Post was nominated for many awards and it is a smart and very informative movie that I certainly learned a great deal from it. The whole government not liking the press thing is very prevalent these days so it felt like a fitting movie when it was released.

The Movie Review
The Post is set during the early 1970s and there is this document that The New York Times got their hands on. This document revealed some very shady goings-on by the US government in relation to the Vietnam War. Old Richard Nixon sued the New York Times, but now the Washington Post has its hands on this document.
Meryl Streep plays Katharine Graham, the publisher of the Washington Post, and we have Tom Hanks as Ben Bradlee, the executive editor of The Washington Post. As always, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep are great, but the movie has a stacked cast with actors like Sarah Paulson, Alison Brie, and Bob Odenkirk being three that I really like and am a huge fan of.
The Washington Post has to decide what they are going to do with this document. On one hand, they have a journalistic duty to the American public to show what they have found. They need to tell the truth and be honest with everyone. The thing is, the press and politicians very rarely mix and they already saw what happened to the New York Times.
They may want to keep their journalistic integrity intact, but what use is that if the paper is shut down? I love the idea of this and I think that it had all the makings for a real tense thriller. However, that is not the direction that Steven Spielberg decided to go with this movie.
Look, Spielberg is a movie-making genius and who am I to question how he felt this movie should go? However, I have to say that for me while I was interested in The Post, it felt like something they would have forced me to watch at school to try and get what the teacher was talking about to stick.
The Post is certainly very informative and I knew nothing about this true story going in so as I said, it was very interesting. It was more the execution of it all that just did not click with me. It is a movie that feels like it was made and pushed out at a very specific time to try and win some Oscars.
I just feel that it could have added a bit more tension a bit more excitement and it would have been a much better movie for it. Some people absolutely love this movie and that is cool. For me, I was interested in what was going down and the acting is great, but I do not see myself ever wanting to watch this again.
