The Princess and the Frog

If I had to make a top ten Disney movies of all time list, The Princess and the Frog would 100 percent make that list. My wife is a huge Disney nerd and while she loves this movie, it was my son who when he was little is the reason, I have seen this movie about a million times. It really stood out at the time as it did not have that same computer-generated look all the other Disney movies were going for and still have.

The Movie Review

This is just a really fun movie! It is set in New Orleans in the 1920s which is a setting that I really love. Our heroine is a feisty and hardworking young woman called Tiana that dreams of owning her own restaurant. Tiana is an instantly likable character and her best friend, Charlotte who is very rich is throwing a party for her daddy and it is here we meet our other main character, Prince Naveen of Maldonia.

Prince Naveen of Maldonia may be a prince and from a wealthy family, but he has been cut off so he plans to marry a rich woman to keep up his lavish lifestyle. Well, things go very, very wrong for Prince Naveen as he is tricked by the voodoo man, Dr. Facillier and he ends up becoming a frog.

Things are not going great for Tiana either as her dreams of owning her restaurant seem to be over and that is when she meets Prince Naveen in his frog form and she ends up becoming a frog herself! From here we have one heck of a fun adventure as Tiana and Naveen head to the Bayou to find the mysterious and magical Mama Odie who is a voodoo priestess so that she can transform them back.

Now, a huge part of the fun of this adventure are the friends they make along the way. Tiana and Naveen meet Louis, who is a big trumpet-playing, jazz-loving alligator and they also meet, Ray who is a hilarious firefly who could not be any more of a Cajun stereotype. We also get to experience Naveen and Tiana getting to know each other better and some major character growth for Prince Naveen.

I also want to give special attention to Dr. Facillier. Dr. Facillier is one of my favorite Disney villains, he is played by the very talented Keith David and he is awesome. My family and I love going to Disneyland Paris and the people they have portraying Dr. Facillier are always fantastic.

The way that The Princess and the Frog looks is truly phenomenal. I would go as far as to say that this is one of the best-looking Disney movies that they have ever made. It is just so bright and well animated that it is impossible not to be brought into the world that they have created. Even though we have Disney Plus, this is a movie I purchased on 4K and it looks amazing!

What more can I say about this movie? It truly is one of the best from Disney and a real favorite of mine. You know, the more I think about it the more I do not think there is anything about the movie that I do not like. Even when my son would want to watch this multiple times a week when he was little, I did not mind as it was so much fun.
