I remember going to watch The Smurfs 2 in the theatre with my wife and son and we all had a great time. This is a movie that we have also watched at home many times and once again, we all had a good time with it. I was kind of shocked to read that many people actually hate this movie!

The Movie Review
Once again Sony Pictures Animation is leading the charge for this Smurfs movie. It mixes computer-generated characters with real-life actors and they managed to get the live-action cast back along with adding some great new talent such as Brendan Gleeson who is a lot of fun in this movie.
I think that the plot in The Smurfs 2 is better than the first one and it feels like there is more going on here, plus I really dig the Paris setting for the movie too. After being trapped on Earth after the last movie, Gargamel has become a celebrity as people are loving the weird magic stuff that he can do.
Despite his newfound wealth and fortune, Gargamel is still obsessed with the Smurfs and wants the secret to creating his own legion of Smurfs. Gargamel has used his magic powers to create two Smurfs of his own, Vexy and Hackus who are called The Naughties. I thought that the Naughties were a lot of fun and from what I could tell, kids loved them!
Gargamel fills Vexy and Hackus’s heads with all kinds of lies about The Smurfs and he gest them to kidnap Smurfette. A huge part of the plot is Smurfette coming to terms with who she is and seeing her embrace her naughty side a bit was very amusing. I think that the Smurfs had a bit more equal billing in the first movie, but this one certainly feels like it is more focused on Smurfette.
Of course, The Smurfs are not going to take this and they head to Paris to try and get her back. They, of course, run into their friends from the first movie Pat and Grace and they along with their child try to help them get Smurfette back and put a stop to Gargamel’s evil and crazy plan.
I think that overall, The Smurfs 2 is a better movie than the first. They are pretty similar movies, to be honest with you, but if you and your kids like the first, you will like this one as well. I really do not get the hate this movie gets! It is a fun and funny family movie that anyone can enjoy. If you have younger kids, I highly recommend you check out both Smurf movies.
I know this is a review about The Smurfs 2, but I do have one extra thing I want to talk about her. I highly recommend that during the festive season you watch The Smurfs: A Christmas Carol with your kids. This is set in-between the two movies and features the same cast (however there are no live-action parts) it is one of the best kids-focused Christmas Carol adaptations I have seen so be sure to give it a watch.
