So far, I have loved The Witcher TV series. Yes, it sucks that Henry Cavil is no longer going to be part of the franchise, but this prequel series proves that there is life in The Witcher franchise yet! This is only four episodes long so it is better described as a miniseries, but I still had fun with this.

The Movie Review
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room, The Witcher: Blood Origin sucks! Ok, that is not exactly true, but I ended up having to wait a while to watch this, and the negative stuff I was seeing about it had me worried. There are a lot of very vocal people out there that do not like this show!
To be fair, I can see why in some cases. The overall plot is a bit “political” and I think that the whole creation of the first Witcher is an awesome story, but the stuff with Merwyn and Balor wanting power never clicked with me. I think that they focused on the story stuff that was boring more than the stuff that was fun.
Let me tell you, there is a lot of fun to be had here. You see, to stand up against the threat of the series (no spoilers here!) we have a rag tag group of seven “heroes” that comes together. Each member of this team has their own backstory and it takes two episodes to really get them all together, by that time the series is half done! I would have much preferred to have seen more of this team together.
My favorites were first of all Michelle Yeoh as Scian. Scian is such a badass warrior and she by far has the most exciting and best-choreographed fighting scenes. I would say that we have two leaders of the group in Eile and Fjall who is also a badass and probably the coolest elf I have ever seen.
There is one member of the team that deserves way more attention than she is getting and that is Meldof. Meldof is a dwarf that is just so much fun, she has a cool hammer, named after her late wife and the more I think about it, the more I realize she was my favorite part of the show. I would actually love a show all about her as I feel it would be a lot of fun.
The Witcher: Blood Origin takes place 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher show and while it does have some stuff that ties in, which is fun. I do feel that this manages to also stand as its own fantasy series. It is good, but I do feel there was potential here for it to be great and that is kind of frustrating.
The special effects of the monsters leave a lot to be desired. Some of the CG in the show is straight-up laughable and it can take you out of the moment. However, the fighting in the show is epic and just as good as it is in the main show. Seriously, The Witcher: Blood Origin has some of the best fight choreography of any show on TV or streaming right now!
Did I love The Witcher: Blood Origin? I would have to say no, but I did not hate it like many people online seem to either. I think that there is some real good here, but it is like they decided to focus on the more boring parts of the story and the less interesting characters! There is still fun to be had here so I do think it is worth a watch.
