As a huge Transformers fan, I have always been excited for each and every release in the franchise. Before we take this walk on the Dark of the Moon. It is important to note that this movie was a monster hit. Pulling in well over a billion dollars at the box office. You could argue that it was Dark of the Moon which really put Transformers back on the map as it was the highest-grossing movie in the entire franchise.

The Film Review
Dark of the Moon is the third Transformers movie from Michael Bay and it in one way is the end of a chapter of the Transformers movie saga. The movie is set a few years after the events of Revenge of the Fallen, however, it starts off in the 60s when it is revealed that a moon mission is actually a cover-up to explore a space ship which turns out to be The Ark… A Transformers space ship that has been stranded on the moon for many years.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon is the last movie to have Shia Labeouf as Sam Witwicky. He is in a down part of his life and wants to do something big. He joins forces with Agent Simmons and they uncover a conspiracy where Megatron is going after and killing anyone who has knowledge of The Ark.
On The Ark lays an Autobot folk hero, Sentinel Prime, the Prime before Optimus. The movie does a great job in making you think that Sentinel Prime is one of the good guys. so it is a real sucker punch when you find out he has been in cahoots with Megatron and plans to destroy the Earth in order to bring life back to Cybertron.
I think that for the most part, Michaels Bay’s Transformers movies have been great. Dark of the Moon though is one of the weakest entries in the franchise. The plot is a bit of a mess and while it has its moments, it drags on way too long. This movie runs at a little over two and a half hours and there is no need for it at all.
The surprise turn of Sentinel Prime and Optimus finally putting down Megatron are some great story moments, but the parts with Sam are very weak and he had outstayed his welcome by this point. Longtime Transformers fans were not happy when it was Sam, a human who killed Starscream!
As with all the Transformers movies, Dark of the Moon is filled with incredible looking set pieces. Shockwave and his giant worm destroying Chicago is truly amazing stuff and the whole final portion of the movie is very exciting. It just takes far too long to get here. You are still rooting for Prime and the rest of the Autobots by the end of the movie, but this is a long movie and it certainly feels like a long movie if that makes sense.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon is not a bad movie, but it has an overly long runtime and most of the stuff with the humans could have been left out. Still, if you want loud, special effects filled movie with cool looking robots, Dark of the Moon is worth a watch. I think you could argue that we had to go through Dark of the Moon in order to get to Age of Extinction so that is a good thing.
