Being a huge fan of the Tales of Arcadia series that was brought to us by Guillermo Del Toro I was so excited for Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans. Think of this as like The Avengers of the Tales of Arcadia series where all the characters are coming together in one final battle. I scored the other three shows at an 8.5 and two 9’s respectively so I had very high expectations for this movie.

The Movie Review
While Guillermo Del Tor had a hand in the script and in producing the show. There is a team of writers here as well as three people directing the movie! I think this could be a huge reason why things here do not live up to those expectations. Perhaps it was a case of too many different people with different creative visions being part of the creation process.
Let me start by saying that you 100 percent need to have seen Trollhunters, 3Below, and Wizards before watching this movie. You would be completely lost here and probably not enjoy things all that much if I am being honest with you. It brings all the cast back together for this final battle and it is certainly an exciting premise.
Seeing Jim, Claire, Douxie, Krel and the rest of the gang having to work together was just as exciting as you would think it would be. The plot of the movie sees the dastardly and evil Arcane Order trying to take over and they are aiming to do this by awakening The Titans! It is certainly a very exciting premise and the stakes feel very high.
I will say that this is an exciting show and it did start off very well. Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans moves at a blistering pace! They are taking three shows and putting them all together here and those three shows all had fantastic character development. That means they were able to focus more on the action and excitement here, they are clearly trying to make this be as “epic” as possible.
Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans looks and sounds amazing. I would go as far as to say that this looks so good it could have been released theatrically. The voice acting is once again superb and the score is awesome and really does get you pumped up for the big action set pieces that this movie has.
Now, the thing with this movie is that it is the ending of a saga that has offered the viewers some immense character development. We have grown with these characters, got to know them, and care about them. However, the ending of this movie throws all of that down the drain. It is truly one of the worst endings to a series that I have seen in a very long time. It also made me look at the heroic Jim in a different way which sucked.
I will say that as a movie based on three epic shows, Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans was decent. If it was not for that terrible and insulting ending, I probably would have scored this at an 8. I and many other fans of the Tales of Arcadia series came into this with sky-high expectations, perhaps too high. However, there is no denying that from a story point of view they failed to nail the landing here.
