Wonder Man

Wonder Man is the first offering from the MCU in 2026, and it got things off with a real bang. The trailer for this did not have me sold at all! One of my dad’s favorite characters is Wonder Man, and when he saw that trailer, he was mad. He had no idea what the heck they were doing with one of his favorite characters, and he flat out refused to watch the show.

Where to Watch Wonder Man

Wonder Man was released on January 27, 2026 on Disney+ and  you can stream it from this platform.

The Movie Review

I will be honest, the trailer was very strange. Wonder Man looked like nothing we had seen from the MCU before, and the actual character, well, from what we saw in the trailer, this sure as heck was not him. While I may not have been as mad as my old man, I was actually intrigued to see this. Hey, at the very least, seeing Sir Ben Kingsley back as Trevor was something that I thought would be fun, and for the most part, I have liked the majority of the things that have come from the MCU.

Wonder Man Trailer Reaction and First Impressions

This is more of a story about friendship than anything else. Our main character is Simon Williams, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and he is a struggling actor who is living in LA. We start with him having a role in American Horror Story, but he keeps wanting to make tweaks to his character, and given that it is a very minor character, this makes the director mad, and they end up firing him.

Simon Williams and the Start of His Story

While taking in a movie, Simon meets Trevor Slattery, who you will remember from Iron Man 3 and Shang Chi. Trevor is awesome. I love the way he takes the craft of acting so seriously, and the little tidbits that he gives about actors and his own career remind me of Martin Short’s Oliver from Only Murders in the Building. Simon and Trevor bond over their love for the craft of acting, and Trevor lets it slip that he has an audition for a movie called Wonder Man.

Trevor Slattery Returns to the MCU

We learn that Wonder Man is something that Simon and his late father bonded over, and Simon is desperate to land an audition for this lead role as he feels that it was a part he was born to play. Ok, you may be wondering right now, how the heck is this a superhero movie, and why is this part of the MCU? Well, this is one of the cleverest parts of the MCU in my humble opinion.

The Emotional Connection Behind Wonder Man

You see, Simon has superpowers; we do not know exactly what these powers are at first, and he doesn’t either. When they activate, he causes massive damage around him. Hollywood has a rule that superheroes cannot be actors, due to an incident with a superpowered man called Door Man and the actor, Josh Gad, which gets its own episode, and it is freaking awesome by the way.

Simon Williams Powers and MCU Mystery

Also, it turns out that Trevor and Simon’s meeting was not an accident. Trevor was grabbed by the Department of Damage Control, and they want him to get evidence on Simon to prove that his powers are dangerous, or they will throw him in jail! Trevor reluctantly agrees, but he and Simon really bond, and I would say that it is one of the best bromances in the MCU!

Department of Damage Control in Wonder Man

The show is only eight episodes long, and you are looking at around 30 minutes per episode, so the pacing is great. The main appeal of the show is 100 percent the friendship between Simon and Trevor that builds up. I am not going into spoiler territory here; all I will say is that if you were put off by the trailer and were not sure what the heck this was, give it a try. I managed to talk my dad into giving the show a chance, and he ended up loving it. My only worry is that this ends on a huge cliffhanger, and with the way Disney Plus is these days, a second season is probably not guaranteed!
