Black Pink – Ddu-Du Ddu-Du: the Lyrics
The song talks about being comfortable with themselves regardless of what others might think. It is available to play through digital download.
Ddu-Du Ddu-Du is a song wherein the all-girl band sings about how they are truly badass. The song begins with a relatively quiet tune as it builds itself up till it reaches the main chorus. Initially, the girls sing about how they have the power to do whatever they feel like.
It talks about being truthful to themselves by not faking any relationships. This is explained in the following verse “I do it however I want because I’m a bad girl, whether you like me or hate me or whatever anyone says”.
One of the best parts of the song is the beat drop that occurs just before the chorus begins. The pre-chorus builds up suspense that leads the song to a peak before complete dropping down the beat.
The latter part of the song follows a similar pattern where all the members of Black Pink sing in pairs and consider themselves to be the rebellious kind who do not follow any formalities.
The Video
The music video of the song begins with every member of Black Pink sitting in what seems to be a throne with four seats. This is followed by all of them dancing and singing together in synchronization to each other.
Individually, all members of the band get equal solo time where they can be seen in different environments such as one of them playing the queen in a game of chess whereas another is seen sitting and acting in a classroom. The overall music video is incoherent such that it features different environments and sudden change of locations which makes it difficult to perceive as to what is exactly happening.
This difference, however, acts is a certain colorful way that somewhat linked to being a rebel in society. The music video ends in a similar fashion as to how it began.
All four members can be seen sitting together in the same throne as the sequence comes to an end.
The Song’s Success
Ten days after its initial release, the music video for Ddu-Du Ddu-Du managed to gain over 300 million views on YouTube, making Black Pink the only Korean all-female band to achieve that milestone in such a short time. Currently, the video has managed to gain over a whopping 530 million views.
The Bottom Line
Overall, Ddu-Du Ddu-Du is an entertaining and colorful song. What makes it sound exquisite is how Black Pink has ingeniously managed to add English rap verses in between the chorus and the tune, making it quite a unique combination.
