The Song Review

Simply Stunning!

The song was made for a digital download on October 18, 2011. Later, it made it to YT, where it became one of the best songs of the decade. Christina Perri proved that her vocals hold immense sheer power to ace a romantic song. Although the song is structured very simply, it stands out.

We think the very same structure enabled the song to become immortal. It turned to be simply stunning. Christina Perri surely took the chorus to another level with her vocals and complemented the orchestra.

Commercial Hit!

A thousand years made it to two big charts. It took spots on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian Hot 100 songs chart. In terms of certifications, a thousand years won big. It was certified Gold and 9 times certified Platinum in the US by the Recording Industry Association in America (RIAA). Next, the song received 7 Platinum certifications from the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). Besides that, the track received 3 certifications by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), in the United Kingdom.

A thousand years also went on to receive Gold certifications by Germany and Ireland. It surely grabbed a big deal of certifications.

A Legacy Made

When it was released, it did not get instant success. In fact, it was a slow climber. Eventually, it became a sleeper hit. Its success transcended the US and became a hit across the Atlantic. It went on to sell 4 million copies in the US only. We can say that it is up to par with Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On, from the movie Titanic. Honestly, we got that kind of ethereal vibes from A Thousand Years. Feels like, it will go on to be played for a thousand years.

A Thousand Years – Music Video

The music video is also a masterpiece. It stands among the top 100 most viewed videos on YouTube. One element of the video made it appealing. It is that it seems like it was shot in the dawn.

In the music video, Christina is wearing a black gown. It begins with an ocean shot, followed by Christina’s hands holding a lit candle. Further, she starts to sing while the candle lights her. You will also witness scenes from the movie, The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn Part 1.

One scene is the highlight of the video. It is where Perri is seen standing in a room with thousands of candles lit on the floor. While placing another candle she sings, “I have died every day, waiting for you”. The scene denotes Christina’s wait for her love.

The video concludes with Perri seeing the sunrise on a windy day.

Lyrical Theme & Music

In lyrics, Christina discusses the feelings of being unconditionally faithful to a partner. Besides that, the song was written about the love affair between Bella and Edward from Twilight. You will see the essence of pure love without any sexual elements.

In terms of tonation, the song is a B-flat major.
