Sugar was released on January 13, 2015, on YouTube and now has over 3.5 billion views. It is the third single from Maroon 5’s 2014 album “V.” SugaMr achieved a howling success and ranked the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Maroon 5 won a Radio Disney Music Award in 2015. In addition, Maroon 5 received a nomination at the 58th Grammy Awards for Sugar in the Best Pop Group or Duo Performance Category.

It is one of a one-of-a-kind love song. Sugar was inspired by the famous 2005 movie, “The Wedding Crashers.” As soon as it made it to YouTube, it made rounds on both mainstream and social media. Alexa Tietjen from VH1 wrote that Sugar is a “Radio-friendly pop song.” On the other hand, Mike Wass from Idolator referred to the number as “Ridiculously Catchy Jam.”

Although being appraised by most, Sugar was a mediocre hit on the charts overall. However, it was perfect for a single release at that time. Sugar has a synthed-up intro. In addition, it has a Perry-esque beat. Adam Levine’s vocals hit the right notes throughout the song. His falsetto stood out, and he grabbed the attention for sure.

Sugar’s video is actually what made it a massive hit. In the music video, Maroon 5 is seen crashing various weddings in Los Angeles and surprising the guests with an epic performance. David Dobkin directed the video, and he was the one who came up with the idea of crashing weddings. David drew inspiration from the movie “The Wedding Crashers,” which he directed himself.

The music video was shot in several wedding venues in Los Angeles.

WAS IT STAGED? Well, this was a thought that popped up for many people. However, it later revealed that in all the weddings crashed for the song, all grooms were informed beforehand. David thought it would be good to have the grooms in confidence, just being on the safer side. After all, you could end up ruining someone’s big day.

The team picked and reached certain grooms. Grooms were told that there would be a surprise performance on the wedding day. However, they were unaware that it would be Maroon 5. Well, it turned out to be amazing.

All band members are seen suited up. They leave the Carondelet House and get in the car. Later on that day, they crash and perform at many weddings.
